2021 vintage. New Zealand’s South Island continues to deliver. Light berry hue in color, rustic red almost brick red at the rim. Vanilla, spice, with a touch of smoke on the nose, blackberry and cherry on the palette. Medium to low bodied, smooth finish, paired exceptionally well with barbecue chicken breast, asparagus, and sweet potato. Would definitely enjoy again. — 12 days ago

Unmistakably Central Otago to my palate. Red plums and raspberries. 20% of the grapes were whole bunch. Also aged in 27% new oak. I must mention Neil Martin’s famous Quote, “ Whenever there is a tasting designed to challenge the supremacy of Burgundy, it is usually Felton Road that is ushered into the ring”. Very much on allocation these days and can be difficult to source. — 2 months ago

Maybe the best chard I have had, jumps out of the glass, aromatic and on the palate quite smooth and silky but still got enough acidity to balance it out. Honeysuckle, melon and some peaches. Really lovely — 4 months ago

Finest pinot noir I have ever had. Compares to high end burgundy with ripe plum, and soft dried herbs of sage and thyme. Elegant structure with saline minerality from limestone soils. Hands down best wine in nz that I have tried — 8 months ago

Home vineyard bottling. Dark and brooding on the nose. Classic Central. Dark fruit, savoury spice, earth. The palate has good weight and concentration of dark slightly sour cherry, and wood spice. Enough acid to provide the structure needed to hold the power together — 15 days ago

Outstanding block 5. Much more concentration and power than precious vintages. Strawberry, raspberry, pepper, wood spice. The power of the very best from Central Otago but with an elegance.

Dark Ruby with a crimson rim. Closed on the nose initially. Straight from the bottle - should have decanted it. Rich on the palate. Latent power with much to give. Dark cherry with dried herbs still to come with further cellaring. This is the first of 5 bottles. In the early days Block 3 was the undisputed best Pinot in NZ but now Block 5 is considered along with other contenders from around NZ. Have the next one in a year. Many good judges think this is the best ever Block 3 up to this point. — 4 months ago

This was rich and delicious. It was fair enough for Suckling to pose the question “Is this the best NZ Pinot so far”? Ticks all the requisite boxes - ripe red and black fruits, a creamy texture, a nice garrigue herbal note. This Pinot lives up to the gorgeous site - one of the most awesome views you will see from the top of the vineyard over Lake Wanaka. Most impressive. — 7 months ago

Quite light ruby garnet , wide garnet rim . On the nose this shows red currant , wild strawberry , dry spice , dried rose , herbal touches and tangerine peel . The palate is quite elegant with wild strawberry , red currant and those fresh herbal hints , with just a touch of bitterness . Fresh acidity , and slightly gritty tannins . Quite refreshing with good length and balance, that touch of bitterness doesn’t detract from the rest of wine. This is quite linear and focused, perhaps slightly strict , uncompromising in style , but probably has a few years left in the cellar and might improve over the next 2-3 years and last well a further 5 or so. — 9 months ago
