Ribeira Sacra Mencía

First wine I have tried from this region…

Fruit… but not too much. Mellow, but still a lot going on.

And it’s only an hour and a half away from Viana?!

This is DOP Ribeira Sacra (an underrated region IMO). The nose shows intense, ripe & tangy red berries, lots of crushed rock, and a pleasantly subtle vegetal note. In the mouth, it’s fruity and round, with a very soft texture. Bone dry, with the initial wallop of fruit turning savory and stony. Nice acids. Very Beaujolais-like and a great value that will work well for parties and with a lot of different foods.

Deep ruby in color; cherries, dried herbs, and cranberries on the nose; intense acidity; medium minus tannins, but very smooth; tastes like Iike sour cherries, crushed gravel, and pomegranate.

Ripe blue/black fruit, rocks, arresting acidity, soft finish. Light medium bodied, seriously drinkable Mencia

Deep purple color.
Aromas of black raspberry, earth.
Dry. Flavors of fresh blackberry, raspberry, cinnamon, earthy minerality. Very fresh!

Medium ruby in color; cherries, dried herbs, and black plums on the nose; high acidity; medium tannins; tastes like pomegranates, tart cherries, and crushed gravel with a long fruity finish. Nellie says it's too tart for her tastes. I love it!

Ripe dark berries, dusty stones, and pepper

Here’s a youthful red wine with mixed berry, cherry, kirsch, violet, black pepper, potting soil, and crushed gravel notes. It’s unoaked, promoting a clean fruit and aromatic expression.

This is a highly-drinkable, versatile wine that has nuance, with a medium body, soft tannins, and lusciously juicy palate.

It’s made primarily from the Mencía grape variety grown on the steep slopes of Ribeira Sacra DOP, a subregion within the Galicia region of Spain 🇪🇸

We could easily see this wine pairing with a variety of foods such as poultry, grilled veggies, roasted meats. It shares a number of the qualities we love in Pinot Noir and Beaujolais.
