Dull dark purple. Abundant, dark plummy nose. Full bodied on the palate with dark plum, blackberry cobbler, and a faint bit of tarry rubber. Low tannins but still some medium minus acidity. On its way out, but still a satisfying drink with hearty, slightly spicy grilled fare. BBQ pork chops are in the menu today.

2001 vintage. Ripe Blackberry notes with plummy chocolate flavours. Add the mocha oak and it is almost the Penfolds DNA for Shiraz!! Still with tannic backbone at 15 years. Tasted another bottle on 23 September 2016 with consistent tasting notes. Amazingly youthful for a 15 year old wine. The Penfolds Tasting Bible The Rewards of Patience say drink to 2018. I think it will cruise past that into the 2020s.

Jun 22nd, 2016Fresh and vibrant for a 15 year old wine - 2001 vintage. This is not just an Aussie Shiraz nose but a Penfolds nose of Blackberry and Chocolate. The strong tannins of a few years ago have softened but will carry this wine on for a few years yet. Excellent effort from Penfolds for one of their under rated cuvees. Gold medal.

May 21st, 2016Again shows Penfolds prowess at crafting red wines that cellar even for their lesser Bin Nos. like Bin 28 - a straight Barossa Shiraz from Kalimna. Ripe plummy notes with a savoury leathery twist and trademark choc mocha notes. Drinking beautifully on its 15th birthday.

Jan 6th, 2016Amazing how well these mid priced Penfolds reds can age. This 2001 Bin 28 tasted much the same 10 years ago! Suspended animation with a powerful core. This will easily go on for another 7+ years. For a wine that cost around $20 what other world wide wine company can do that? Rich and satisfying. Drank another bottle 18th October. Perfumed nose of ripe blackberry and prune, chocolate notes. Still rich and satisfying. 92 points.
