Sep 16th, 2023Nose of lemon drop, lime zest, saline, sea breeze, limestone, white flowers and crushed rocks. Palate is so so elegant and sappy. Really floats but also seems turned inwards and needs time to flesh out. Juicy but only showing 10% of itself. Needs mega mega air. As this airs it loosens up and shows it’s sheer mineral force and great concentration. Wow is this mineral. Wow now it has gained elegance and length. 9.3 to 9.4 after 3-4 hours.

Lemon curd and prickly minerality, carried on a creamy base. Not quite the intrigue and expressiveness of the ‘18 at this juncture. Better on day 2.

Another wonderful wine from Brisset. First time having the 2020 and it definitely delivers. Lemon peel, some stony notes, great texture and mouthfeel, long finish. For the price remains one of the best values out there.

First of the 2020 of this legendary cuvée for us. A bit shy even after an all day decant, still quite lovely at this stage. Excellent concentration, balance, tightly-wound, mineral-lemon accord.

Pop and pour. On the nose: grilled nuts, incense, smoky lemon, lemon oil, soft lime and vanilla. Just fascinating aromatics: clearly chard, but with a compelling twist. On the palate: apple, meyer lemon, soft almond. Seemed almost a touch too mature on the palate. The nose skews ethereal, the palate brings this quickly down to earth.

The 4th vintage now of the greatest Bourgogne Blanc in the world. Just a massively complex nose of wet stones, incisive minerality, dash of oak, lime zest, lemon drop that is pure as the driven snow. Just a shockingly incredible nose that screams 1er cru Chassagne all the way. So layered and so deep a new nuance every time you stick your nose in the glass. The palate, as usual, overdelivers with just stunning concentration and lemon flesh intensity and drop dead, drool worthy purity. It’s round yet incredibly fresh and deep. What a finish that just lingers and lingers with a sweet lemon-lime intensity on a bed of minerals. Easiest 9.5 I’ve ever given. Wow what purity. Has that amazing combo of sweet, rich, salty and mineral. This is brilliant A1 winemaking. So slippery on the finish. This is wide open and more open than the 19 was at this phase of its evolution. Just a stunning stunning wine.
As this airs it gets more stunning. Tree bark, saline, iodine, white flowers and more! Superb concentration and density but also round and fresh. Lemony fruit but right now the salty sweet minerals abound. Just a miracle of a wine.
