Beef stock, and a little pruney note on the nose which worried me but there's terrific acidity on the palate and it's absolutely a food wine. As an accompaniment to linguine with spicy tomato and sausage sauce, it was wonderful. It may be a tad short on the finish but that's the only complaint. The '96.
