Poggio Salvi
Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
This took quite a bit of air to open up. Nose features warm sandstone scents, along with plummy dark cherry fruit. Broad but somewhat austere in the mouth. Good acids and drying tannins. Better with my grilled hangar steak than on it own.
UPDATE: on night 2, it seemed fresher and some fresh cherry fruit showed through. The drying, chalky tannins are still there, however. Together, this suggest that this wine will benefit from at least 2 more years of cellaring. Upping rating to 9.1.

Thanks to my brother for this. Held onto it for a while. It was terrific. Red- brown, syrupy cherry, tar, earth, and a touch of menthol. Tannins in control, good finish. Enjoyed it with some homemade pasta and bolognese.
