Quilceda Creek
Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
I became a fan of Quilceda Creek when visiting our son at College in the US back round 2005. I bought this bottle from Vinfolio in San Francisco. This wine is a dark Ruby red with a tawny rim developing. Initially notes of asparagus (SO2) which blew off after about 30 minutes in the decanter. Medium weight on the palate with red and black berries and a touch of chocolate. Very balanced at 16 years of age , some savouriness finishing with soft resolved velvety tannins. Medium plus intensity and low acid. I note Harvey Steimans Drinking window was 2010 to 2020. 14.9% ABV is hardly noticeable. One of the 1001 wines and a delight to drink this.

Mar 2nd, 2019The 2004 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon is a scintillating wine that is showing marvelously at this juncture. The nose is gorgeous and intense right out of the gate with bright red and dark fruits with chocolate, sagebrush, cherry tomato and blueberry compote that all collide in the glass. Lighter herbal tones come into play after the bottle has been opened more than two hours. The palate takes on an incredible elegance and silky mouthfeel. While obviously rich, this is quite well-balanced. The texture gives the err of decadence. With refined tannins, the wine has tremendous richness, yet relies on great finesse with blueberry cordial, black tea, exotic spices and mocha flavors. The exceedingly long finish lingers in this exciting fifteen year old Cabernet. This incredible wine is peaking now so enjoy it over the next five years as there is no reason to wait on this heavyhitter. Drink 2019-2023- 99

Truly, this is among the best of Washington, there is a reason why Quilceda has attained cult status. On the palate, massive structure is deceptively cloaked in silky, velvety, inky overtones. Steeped blackberries, roasted black cherries and cedar intertwine to give lift, polish, and a most luxurious, elegant finish. The balance is impeccable.

May 11th, 2022This is at a stage that’s reminiscent of a Paso Cab. Big fruit, big acid. Silky tannins on account of age. Oak has fully resolved, a plus for QC’s generally rich oak treatment. I feel this has plenty of life left. For me it’s at an imbalanced stage.
