Ridge Vineyards
Lytton Springs Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Blend
Beautiful with an hour of breathing time. Concentrated berry fruit without being jammy. Pure. Fruit forward. Hot on the finish. Several blind tasters were leaning Grenache.

Apr 9th, 2019The 2015 Lytton Springs is very, very closed. Readers should not think about opening a bottle anytime soon. Intensely aromatic, but also tightly wound, the 2015 only hints at its true potential. Deceptively medium in body, the 2015 packs a real punch. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2017)

I'm sure some of this is due to being very young and without direction, but I expect others will feel the same. Still firm tannin and earthy backbone amidst lush and rich fruit.

Oct 15th, 2019It's so interesting to have my first CA Zin post-Puglia trip. So, I've been drinking Zin since at least the famous 1994 vintage. I've known the grape's heritage for quite a while. I drank a lot of Primitivo in Puglia this past month. And honestly, they didn't evoke memories of Zins, but now the reverse is certainly true. This reminds me of a ripe, big fruit Salento Primitivo.
Lytton Springs is 74% zin, 16% petite sirah, 8% carignane, and 2% mourvedre. It's a deep purple, medium plus bodied wine with white pepper, licorice, and a blackberry undertone. A bit hot on the alc, medium tannins, medium minus acidity.
I've had better from Ridge, but they rarely disappoint and this doesn't.

Dark ruby almost purple color. Medium-heavy body. Black fruit, fresh blackberries, candied cherry, plum, cocoa, espresso on the nose. Delicate notes of cedar, earth, tannins on the finish.
