Monte Rosso Zinfandel

So great. Loads of ground, smoky sandstone, ripe blackberry, maple syrup. Rich, structured, so good, so balanced. My favorite Zin plot of land.

This is retro-Zin, before the majority were off-dry, low acid fruit bombs from f*cking Lodi. Nose has significant minerality, leaning toward the sandstone end of the spectrum, along with classic ripe blackberry Zin fruit and a smoky maple syrup note. Sinewy (in the good way) and athletic in the mouth, with full body and very nice acidity. Very rich but bone dry. The finish is ripe blackberry, minerals, and zesty acidity. Bring on the beef stew!

March 2019, Had the 2014 vintage bought at Seghesio winery. Great zinfandel. Drunk it with friends visiting us. Paired with pork with shiitake mushrooms .

Had this with a nice ny strip and enjoyed it immensely. BlackBerry, some jam, tar, and just a whole lotta goodness. I wish I had a case. Thanks for the bottle, brother!

Dark fruit, black plum, star anise and vanilla aromas with a black plum, cherry and spice palate. Usually don’t enjoy zin, but this was pretty decent.

This is a perfectly excellent zin. You will not rave about it’s complexity, but it is really tasty. We had it with grilled pork chop- good combo- could drink it all day.

Last vintage of monte rosso for seghesio and it's a phenomenal one. Biale isn't getting it after 2016. Gallo will be using it for louis martini and its other premium brands (hint hint orin swift now). Love this vineyard and sad to see these awesome zin producers lose out on it but looking forward to what gallo does with it. Love these seghesio 14s.
