Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

On the nose, blackberries, blueberries, plums, cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth and black pepper.

Medium to full bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cherries, oak, vanilla, light cloves, leather, earth, spices and black pepper.

Medium plus in length on the finish, with firm tannins and spices.

A nice Cabernet from Livermore Valley in California. Drinkable by itself, and very enjoyable. A good food wine too. Nicely balanced and interesting, with a nice mouthfeel. I liked it.
Much better than the 2011 vintage.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Sipping Fine Wine

Deep red color with dark fruit and heavy spice. The palate shows tart black cherry flavor, some plum and spicy oak. Big grainy tannins, lively acidity on this full body wine that had a medium finish.

Xmas gift part deux. Pleasantly surprised. Mirrors a Rutherford style wine. Frogs Leap comes to mind.

"Since 1883, five generations of our family have handcrafted fine wines that express the very best of our vineyards and winemaking expertise. Our Estate Grown Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon is named for our vineyards located along the southern hills of the Livermore Valley. The Wente family farms approximately 400 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards using the two clones originating from California wine pioneer Charles Wetmore’s Bordeaux cuttings in the 19th century. With Livermore Valley’s unique East-West orientation, well-drained rocky soils, and unique mesoclimates, the Southern Hills vineyards are located in the most desirable settings with exposures ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon of distinct character, depth and intensity."
