Sceales Vineyard Old Vine Grenache
A nose of fresh strawberry.
On the tongue, this offers up more tart fruits, cranberry, raspberry, skin tannins - the inside bits that you cannot seems to chew fully - white, black peppers, wild acidity. Long, chewy, and very lime zesty. An interesting Grenache from Cali.

Medium reddish purple. Aromas of spicy red berries and herbs. Light bodied with vibrant acidity and little tannin. Made from 100% old vine Grenache planted in Alexander Valley in 1914. 100% whole clusters fermented in concrete egg with partial carbonic maceration then aged 10 months in neutral French oak and concrete. 13.5% ABV.

Jan 14th, 2019After a couple of days in the Finger Lakes tasting cold-climate wines, I craved something Mediterranean in style. This is a terrific Grenache, picked early enough to keep some zing. Nose has fresh raspberry, stone dust, and rhubarb. Transparent and athletic in the mouth. Nice acids and purity, has some tannin for structure too. Great pasta wine.

Savory and tight in the mouth, with a bitter whack of flavor initially, with fruit coming in as the finish winds down. Very good acidity. Good dinner accompaniment.

Nov 5th, 2019Hello one day old lovely, lively Grenache.

Dec 16th, 2018Not feeling this. Seems a bit thin, and the acid and a little out of whack. Usually like these though, so maybe it's just the bottle.

Nov 19th, 2018Nice surprise. Pax Mahle, I believe. Tart cherry, bright fresh strawberry, and a touch of leather and faintest hint of cola.
13.5 ABV, kind of peasanty, and would be great on the deck in the summer. 9.2
