We adored this wine. Lively and tense eight acidity depth and a peppery verve, it was amazing with a steakhouse dinner, but equally wonderful the second night with salad, cheese and a hearty bread. — 2 years ago
Opened nearly 7 hours prior to Tasting Group and slow-ox'd. Even though this wouldn’t be considered testable, I figured it would be fun to taste with the group, you know, to keep them on their toes! Presented double-blind.
The 2013 Merlot “Passata” pours a deep ruby color with medium viscosity. Moderate intensity; developing vinosity. The nose is redolent of raspberries, cranberries, jasmine, a mix of dried and fresh purple flowers, smoke, some spice, dried herbs, and stone. There are some pyrazines lurking underneath as well which , if nothing else, should have been some clue to others. On the palate, the wine is dry and generous with ripe red fruit mixed with some dark fruit, smoke and spices, leather, and tobacco. Acid is high with medium++ tannin…grippy, juicy tannins. High alcohol. Long finish.
Calls were all over the place, from Dry Creek Zinfandel to Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Truthfully, I didn’t expect anyone to call Langhe Merlot. That being said, there is an underlying Italian sensibility to this wine. The structure is all Italy and even though the alcohol was high, it’s not terribly unusual to see balanced wines from Langhe bumping up close to 15%. Anyway, this was outstanding and universally adored by the group. As far as age-ability, this is drinking quite nicely with a hefty amount of air. That being said, taking the structure into account, this should easily drink well over the next ten years. — 5 years ago
This got better with every sip! A bit of effervescence and such an exciting find outside of Switzerland. I enjoyed these so much when I visited last and it was fun to re-live some travels during this quarantine. Sweeter than I was expecting but with some honeydew and saline. My partner adored it, but I am excited for our next Swiss bottle! — 6 years ago
Adored it. Notes of dried cherry, balanced acidity that led to a delightful sensation while drinking. Can’t wait to enjoy more! — 6 years ago
Absolutely adored this wine! From first sip to last. A mere 20 minutes after opening, simple bottle aerator, perfection throughout! Smooth, tasty, powerful, truly delectable. 22.75$ at SAQ would absolutely get again. A new contender for the old 2011 Camùl. — 7 years ago
2024/7/16-17. While I’ve adored Lafarge’s Volnays for years, I haven’t had many of the Meursaults. This reminded me a bit of Dauvissat’s Chablis - restrained, linear, no trace of oak. There’s lemon and white flower, with just flashes of spice, butter and hazelnut - at least for now — 2 years ago
It nearly seems a slight rosé gold colour in the glass with super plentiful bubbles. Glazed Nashi pear, spice, florals, nuts and saltiness come through on the nose. It’s captivatingly complex. In the mouth it has such a smooth yummy texture to it. Think apple strudel sprinkled with freshly toasted nuts.
I adored every sip! — 5 years ago
Drank this at Carbone (at Sadelle’s, due to COVID indoor 25% capacity). Adored this, especially when paired with the amazing meal. Would like to try again to see how it stands alone — 6 years ago
Have always adored these wines. Traditional, full of soul and character. Would never call this 15 years old, fresh as a daisy. Ripe citrus, grilled pineapple, golden apple, iodine, anchovy, damp earth, mushroom, spring honey, tarte tartin, herbs. The warmth of the year is present in its upfront fruit, but it all departs salty mineral with persistent cut. — 6 years ago
Just adored this. Gorgeous nose of citrus and Brie rind. Quite the elegant palate of salty, fresh melon and a long mineral finish. Some people wanted more funk, I’m all for the squeaky, delicious, cleanliness of this. — 7 years ago
Going into pregnancy my wife adored this Chardonnay. The great test, then, was to figure out if she loved it the same postpartum, or if her adoration of it had waned amidst her abstinence of alcohol consumption. Well, the test results are in: her love has not diminished! Be it known this is still her favorite Chard.

Buttery oak, green caramel apple, and Meyer lemon on the nose. On the palate ginger, lemon zest, and a buttery, waxy mouthfeel. — 7 years ago

Not to be outdone, the 1989 Chave Hermitage Rouge showed more brambles than the ’88 along with other desiccated blue and black fruits. Dried flowers, beef, blood, leather and mushrooms. Every time I have the pleasure of drinking old Chave, I’m reminded that these wines have so much character and there is a reason they are so adored. Lovely with grilled lamb and Moroccan spices. Drink now through 2040. — 2 years ago
Chablis at the highest levels!!! Complex aromas of flowers , melon and ripe fruits with a touch of minerality, on the palate it reveals lots of freshness with a long finish. I adored it ! — 4 years ago
I adored this crisp and light drinking wine. Paired with buckwheat blinis, smoked salmon, dill creme, capers, and dill. Wonderful mineral, green apple notes, but so light on the tongue. I recommend for any warm day when you want a refreshing experience — 5 years ago
Adored this semi-sweet, light-bodied, fruity blend of wine that beautifully touches the palate and begs for another sip! Great white wine! — 6 years ago
I adored this wine - $18 on Wine.com right now! It’s insane! Special thanks to Sam for recommending it. Juicy red fruit, black pepper, underbrush, bonfire... I guess it’s a little on the lighter side (which might disappoint fans of big Tempranillo tannins) but that only means it’s a perfect wine for grilled burgers in the summer. — 6 years ago
Had this at a trade tasting last week and been meaning to post it! It has just a smidge of sweet to it but also sings of freshness and delight. Different than most Australian Rieslings I’ve had—in that it tasted indelibly like Riesling. Which is not shade against their Rieslings so much as it is shade on me for always failing to identify them in tests. Anyway, adored this wine. Would guzzle again. — 7 years ago

My first Vin Jaune ever. I adored it but not more than 1 glass. Or change the dish pairing — 3 months ago
