PnP’d. Complete opposite of the AG cab. Smoky, earthy, and meaty. Medium depth. Hardly any fruit. — 4 years ago

Severe cowshit on the nose. I shud have decanted this, but I’m impatient. Barnyard plays out on the palate, too. This is tannic, yet sweet. Structured, with a weighty mouthfeel. Superb finish with notes of cedar, roasted almonds and black cherries. This will be singing 3 years from now. If you like power and exuberance, give Eneo a try.
AG puked all over this - I taste no Bret!!! — 8 years ago
Calera’s 2015 Vin Gris of Pinot Noir is absolutely stellar. Expressive floral notes melt into a core of cranberry, white pepper and blood orange, all of which are given an extra kick of intensity by the natural richness of the vintage. (AG) — 10 years ago
My last bottle from the defunct yet memorable winery.
Smells so delicious, like a fruit yogurt
This drinks like it is fresh, with blackberry bramble, subtle and unique red fruits tucked behind the leather ones.
Tannins are still very gripping, and the acidity tames it back. A touch of heat and its off to the races! — 3 years ago
Gekonfijte citroenschil, grapefruit, peper, kruisbes, salmiak, boenwas. Lemon curd. Mooie lengte. Erg intrigerend! — 6 years ago
Wow! The nose on this is spectacular. Wild blueberries, spices, fresh walk in the woods, and flowers. The feel and flavor in the mouth are so great. More blueberries, herbs, spices with perfectly integrated tannins. A balance between bandol and new world. — 7 years ago

Readers looking for an everyday Tuscan red should take a serious look at San Polo's Sangiovese-based 2013 Rubio. This plump, juicy red is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Sweet black cherries, mint, lavender and spices add nuance to the flamboyant finish. (AG) — 10 years ago

Giornata Wines Luna Matta Vineyard Nebbiolo 2014: Pure. Fresh. Simply awesome! Roses & violets on the nose and intense red fruits, licorice & earth on the palate. I’m blown away by this Californian Nebbiolo that tastes like its from Barolo! Love love love this new world expression of an old world varietal! Cheers🍷 — 6 years ago
AG nailed the notes for this wine, so I won’t duplicate. But on the nose and palate, I also detect kirsch liqueur, hints of licorice and anise. This wine has not moved since it was bottled. It presents with purity and power. Easily possesses another 20 years of runway ahead of it. Sheer ecstasy in a glass. My favorite Rhône producer. — 8 years ago
Fresh and lively. Smoked meat, cherries, and mint. Paired perfectly with pizza. — 9 years ago
A surprisingly powerful wine, the 2014 Chianti Classico shows why this is such a great a site. Black cherry, smoke, licorice and dark spices fill out the wine's ample frame effortlessly, with hints of sweet rose petal, and mint that blossom in the glass. (AG) — 10 years ago
Translucent and weightless in the glass, the San Giusto a Rentennano’s 2013 Chianti Classico boasts extraordinary finesse. Sweet red cherry, hard candy, tobacco, mint, crushed flowers and new leather are some of the nuances that grace the exquisite finish. (AG) — 10 years ago

Along with Gattinara, Bramaterra provides a great alternative to way more expensive nebbiolo wines from Barolo and Barbaresco. — 10 months ago
