Poured into an Amadeo decanter about 30min prior to service. The 2018 Val di Suga BdM “classico” is a combination of fruits sourced from the estates three vineyards: Vigna del Lago; Vigna Spuntali and Poggio al Granchio. The wine pours a deep ruby with a near opaque, transparent core and a watery rim. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, teh wine is developing with morello cherry, carnations, dusty earth, orange pith and leather. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and drying. This was my second time drinking the classico and I’m quite keen to try some of the single vineyard expressions in the future. Drink now with a short decant or through 2033 — a year ago
Love it. The way Chianti should be. — 12 years ago
Poured into an Amadeo decanter shortly before service and served alongside the 2016 Chateau L’Enclos because it just sounded fun. No formal notes. Somewhat surprisingly, the Rafanelli had a lot in common with the Pomerol. On the nose, the dark fruits and purple flowers were more powerful but this shared similar structure with its French counterpart and maybe even a little more acid. Oak treatment seemed a little more generous but it was integrating with the fruit very well. To my palate, this is really starting to show off and has a notable edge on the Chateau L’Enclos with more in all the right places. This is still developing so I expect the best is yet to come. Drink now through 2036 with ease. — 10 months ago
I bought this for my sister's birthday & I was happy she shared a taste with me. I would love to try the dogtown, the whitecoat or the amadeo. But I live in Vermont & I doubt I'll find any of those for sale up here. — 6 years ago
After an initial smell and taste, I felt the wine was a bit shy and some air would do some good. Additionally, there appeared to be quite a bit of sediment so I poured into a Riedel Amadeo decanter about an hour before service. The 2009 Reserva pours a deep ruby with a near opaque core with some slight rim variation; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of dark dried cherries, sage, dried/cracked leather, dill, tobacco, anise, a touch of furniture varnish and some baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose with some added mint on the very long finish. This is a very lovely, traditional leaning Reserva that’s just beginning to show secondary characteristics. Drinking well now and should continue to do so well past 2029. — 10 months ago
