This wine is dark garnet in the glass. Aromas of blackberry, plum, and cassis grace the nose, along with some oak spice. The palate has plenty of dark fruit, a savory edge, and very firm tannins. It pairs nicely with any kind of beef, especially a steak with lots of fat. I also tried it with a spicy pasta dish, but I found that the tannins fought with the spice a little too much. Beef that has been salted and peppered is the better choice. — 8 months ago
Diferente a un rosado clásico, sin acidez, con cuerpo y recuerdo. Fresa y frambuesa.
69% Tempranillo / 18% Syrah / 13% Merlot — 2 years ago
Sangiovese, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah.
Easy drinking, plenty of red fruit, nice tannin structure from Cab. Tannins could mellow a few months more, but totally approachable now, mid-weight tannin. Being from one of my favorite regions, I find it hard to hold onto wines for long. — 3 years ago
This is an outstanding Pinot Noir from Spain. Clearly had some time in French barrels, medium red color, pretty light appearance. Red Cherry, medium/medium +body, super subtle tannins, soft and complex: excellent! — 7 months ago
Medium ruby in color; raspberries, stewed strawberries, and smoke on the nose; medium plus acidity; medium tannins; tastes like blood oranges, hibiscus, asphalt with a long finish. Needs a long decant. It starts out reductive. Nellie says it's ok and I like it. — 9 months ago
Capa alta y lagrima densa. Nariz floral: violetas.
Even better than the crazy-good 2007, the 2015 La Sangre de Jonata is sheer perfection in a glass and up with the finest Syrahs ever made in California! Checking in as a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier, aged in barrel, its saturated purple color is followed by out of this world aromatics black raspberries, smoked earth, graphite, game, violets and freshly crushed rock-like minerality. — 8 months ago
I asked the Somm to recommend a wine from Andalusia to pair with the region’s cuisines. Without hesitation, he picked out this bottle from a winery based in Ronda, a town I visited more than 10 years ago and have vivid memories of.
This is the flagship bottling of the winery with 100% Petit Verdot aged 12 months in clay amphorae.
It’s rich and savory just like to cuisine, and also has the lively acidity and aromatic intensity to counter those richness. What a great pairing! — 9 months ago
