The 2019 Treinspoor, 80% whole-cluster Tinta Barocca matured in old foudre, presents a crisp, well-defined bouquet of blackberry, briar and wild fennel scents, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Taut and crisp, almost pixelated in style, leading to a sensual, mulberry-tinged finish. Very elegant and refined. Library wine purchased at the tasting room. Third of three bottles tasted. Plum brown in color. Prune mint blueberry cherry fruit leather and briar notes in nose. Berry, tea, mint, orange, plum and soy flavors in mouth, cherry finish with minor seed tannins. Challenging to judge a Pinot Noir aged this long, and not enough experience at it as a wine drinker, but it proved a surprisingly decent pour and most enjoyable. Much more enjoyable than the previous bottle tasted three months earlier, bottle variation perhaps? — 8 years ago
STORAGE is everything.
Correct storage does not magically enlighten all wines, but it enables you to wait until such time that wines crafted with proper parts and proper technique will offer you a higher level of enjoyment.
Our final bottle of this 2003 vintage, purchased in May 2006 for $31 as Achával-Ferrer was beginning their ascension to greatness, with pricing to match.
Decanted 4H.
Similar notes to prior experiences:
Nose has ripe plum, graphite, dried black cherry, dried tart cherry, old leather, dried black currant, slight eucalyptus, dark chocolate, stewed raisin, mashed blackberry, faint chalkboard dust and dried rose.
Palate has sweet prune, semi-sweet chocolate, dried black cherry, sweet-roasted red pepper, dried boysenberry, briar and dry earth. Fine tannins, rich and round the on the finish.
Stellar show on our finale of the vintage...Looking forward to the 2004's. I previously stated this bottle could likely make a 20th birthday in proper storage, looks like it can only make a ~19th birthday in this cellar.

Bought at winery tasting room. Purple, dense, moderately extracted. Blackberry, briar notes in nose with hints of wet concrete floor, funk, veg and spearmint. Blueberry and blackberry flavors with slightly tart blueberry aftertaste. Mild seed tannins and moderate skin astringency in finish. Nice complexity of fruit with no hints of wood or barrel until an hour after opening. A tad much oak for me; I preferred the wine from the first hour. — 7 years ago
Good but a little acidic — 8 years ago
Briar notes mingle with barrel toast on the nose. Sweet blackberries and rich cherries on the palette. Tannins are mature, but still show some ripeness. Nice acidity, while the finish is sweet. Impressive. — 8 years ago
They make such good Zins. Briar & Bramble, dark red fruit. Currants, smoke, tea — 5 years ago
Great Pinot... comparable to Meiomi. Will get again. — 6 years ago
Dense inky purple. Briar, black currant and blackberry notes in nose. Blackberry and mint flavors with a touch of bay leaf. Blackberry, cherry and mint with length in aftertaste. Fine grained tannins, moderate skin astringency initially but soften quickly. Lovely flavor profile, slightly tart but softens — 7 years ago
Bought at winery, labelled “Unsulfured”. Medium extracted purple red, very good clarity. Briar notes in nose. Tart, raspberry and blueberry flavors, some skin astringency in finish. Needs time to open. Later, cola and mint flavors emerge, with an anise aftertaste. Chewy seed tannins emerge after an hour — 7 years ago
This Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel is extremely dark with a deep, rich nose. Aromas of blueberry, black cherry and currant come forcefully, with delightful black pepper, vanilla and smoke on top. The palate has a distinctly savory side - sage, rosemary, white pepper - and the fruit is all dark and smoky. Tannins hit a sweet spot and will prove useful without getting in the way. The sip is smooth and delicious, as the best Zinfandels usually are. — 8 years ago

Good. Wants some air. Not as much concentration as I’ve been used to for a Beauj of this price point from Morgon, but the other thevenet wine we had was from morgon and was a lot lighter than anticipated so maybe it’s a winemaker style? Lots of raspberries and this interesting briar note on the end, the back end doesn’t have as much going on but… I did have the majority of the bottle without letting it air out a bit. Wife wants to do a side by side with their morgon to compare the stemmyness. Worth a check definitely, makes me want to try more regnie but also solidified my adoration for morgon. But the more this airs the better it gets. Will have to revisit. — 3 years ago
