I know that 2012 wasn’t a perfect year but this still underperformed. Have a lot of nostalgia for D’Issan after Emmanuel Cruse (the proprietor) oversaw the Bordeaux tasting competition where my wife and I met. Very little fruit on the mid palate. Bit thin on the finish. Definitely left bank - the nose is very nice. Good pairing with beef tenderloin slow roasted but still a smidge below what I hoped. — a year ago
Nice sparkling wine semi dry mild sweetness — 4 months ago
1995 vintage. I have little experience with Corbin, an estate that has a long history of female owners ( currently Annabelle Cruse), but this is a very convincing 27 years old Saint-Emilion. Fully mature with delicate strawberry fruit, a fresh and charming old school Saint-Emilion. Abv. 12,5%. Makes me want to taste the more recent vintages. — 2 years ago
This is the 2012 Late Disgorged Blanc de Noir.
Having been a long time fan of Michael Cruse and his Ultramarine wines, I was excited to try my first late disgorged offering. Michael recommended at least 6 months post disgorgement before opening…this was disgorged Nov 2020, so I was able to give this 8 months.
Compared to the regular Blanc de noir, I didn’t get that cream soda type note on the nose upon opening, but a lot of this was similar to its regular sibling. Definitely a core of oxidized Apple, with notes of Apple strudel, Bosc pear, and a Carmex note I get with a lot of zero dosage grower champagnes. On the palate it was more full bodied and rich, with a very vinous profile. Closer to high quality white wine than it was sparkler. Bubbles weren’t aggressive. Fruit was mainly Granny Smith Apple with lime stone, and sea salted grilled lemon. Not yeasty. Tasty, as expected! — 4 years ago
Bright beige gold with fine persistent bubbles. Enticing aroma of green apple and honey. Medium palate yield green apple, grape skin, and a strong floral note mid-palate to finish. Good balance between fruitiness and seemingly natural acidity. Short but tight finish. One of the best dealcoholized sparklers I’ve had. Cruse has managed to maintain flavor without over sweetening and to keep it bright without that fake citric acid taste. Excellent for those cutting down on alcohol and those who celebrate with them. Drink now. — 2 years ago
