How do you say Bordeaux in Italian? A brooding dark purple with thin edges and a bright, fresh nose. The Franc shows it’s hand prominently here with some green bell pepper, moist earth, and smoke. Fresh red berries and dried herbs come to play, as well. This is an outrageously fun wine. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Umbria? It may sound odd but it certainly works. This Superumbrian is full bodied and rich on the tongue with just the right amount of acidity. Plenty of oak on the palate but it’s well integrated because Italians know what they’re doing. Vanilla, chocolate, and red cherries are predominant, along with tobacco, mint, leather and lace. Go find this immediately and don’t worry too much about age, it’s brilliant. — 5 years ago
A delicious, surprisingly savoury & structured Merlot from Lazio.
Dark plums, some blackberry & dark cherry character, but also an earthy, savoury underscore with some rocky notes, mocha, hints of roast.
Elegant & restrained on the palate with a good frame of polished tannins and juicy acidity. Very nice definition here and good substance.
Blind - a really good St. Emilion.
