Nebbiolo

What a fantastic build from a great vintage. Drinking this a little young for the recommended maturity of this variety… nevertheless, drank to his potential. Wish I had several more!! Weight and acid and tremendous harmony — 6 months ago

Morra Gabriele

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2015

Better than the first bottle. Big tarry nose, underbrush, oak, Minty entry, nice tannic grip. Opened and poured, it sat 10 mins in the glass. Better than decanting. Chewy. — 5 years ago

Naturelle Frizz Malvasia blend 2021

— 4 years ago

Howard Park

Western Australia Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 1990

It held beautifully
I personally thought was 15 years younger
Lots of scents
From a dark fruit like blueberry and plum to spices like cloves and cinnamon; leather and cigars box too.
Looking for weaknesses I’d say it doesn’t have a long finish, not extremely intense on the nose( is that really a fault?) and maybe it is a bit too much on the oaky side, but altogether very enjoyable wine. Colour was misleading, still ruby and garnet, just a slight glimpse of orange on the edge. Thanks

Tio Pepe Tres Palmas Jerez Palomino Fino 1835

N: Salty dried butterscotch/caramel, Seashore, old boats, rot in the best of ways.
P: Sweet but no… upon entry, the impression is of something unctuous and sweet, for a bit of a second, then DRY. Yellow and gold flowers/melon,
heady at 16°. Great w baby artichokes and Parm and pan seared Branzino.
Varnish lacquer,
Really fine weirdo stuff. I’ve never splurged for the Quattro Palmas…but….

Fino Una Palma Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Palomino Fino 2020

Very impressed by the Palmas series, a special release of “en rama” sherries from selected casks from the Tío Pepe solera. Traditionally, cellarmasters in Jerez would mark exceptional casks with a chalk drawing of a palm tree branch (palma in Spanish), potentially adding more branches if those wines continued to show finesse and delicacy as they aged. To make the selection, González Byass’ invites different guests (mostly wine critics and somms) every year, an honor that befell Ferran Centelles (El Bulli) in 2020.

The 2020 Una Palma comes from three casks from the Tio Pepe solera with 6 years of aging under flor, bottled unfined and unfiltered (en rama). Sharp nose with notes of almonds, yeast and hints of citrus. Fresh, mineral and very saline. Much more intense aromas and flavors than the regular Tio Pepe
