Powering through the last of the oak beers on the way to wine immersion. On a positive note, the baby now has a room! Anyway, last year’s Good Gourd! Looks like dark tea or a hot cider, nice eruption of bubbling magic. Orange tinged; good start! Super spiced cinnamon apple, caramel, vanilla, nutmeg, and oddly smelling of a California wine. Sierra foothills mascarpone notes and also a hot buttered rum smell. Cinnamon tea, clove studded orange, whiskey-lemon-honey tea, toasted coconut, sweet tobacco, brown sugar, dates, fruitcake candied notes with a nod to its density. Always a banger but lost to a 2016 reserva in a blind taste. Probably because this vintage scored 90, while that one was a 94. Doesn’t make this any less of a super star though. Great wine, great house. — a month ago

2019 edition. A little thin compared to prior years. Might be due to the relatively weak/disappointing 2019 KBS base. Nevertheless, the bourbon and maple syrup are both present and water nice. The alcohol is well balanced, it doesn't feel hot at all like other imperial stouts. — 5 years ago

Tonight the wine I have opened is the Moët & Chandon 150th Anniversary Imperial Brut Champagne. The blend is 30-40% Pinot Noir, 30-40% Pinot Munier and 20-30% Chardonnay.
On the nose there is buttery brioche, creme brulee, lemon curd, yeasty bread, hazelnut and apricot.
On the palate there is creamy lemon curd, tropical fruits, pineapple, brioche, hazelnut and a minerality.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + to high acidity that leads into a long toasty citrus finish. Today is the day we spring ahead and so we all lose an hour of our weekend. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2016 Reserva pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart red and black fruits: black cherry, tobacco, cocoa, dill, vanilla and associated warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a textbook, modern leaning and clean version of Rioja Reserva.
