Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2014 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is a vintage I have not tasted for some time. Quite rustic on the nose, it offers red fruit, juniper berries, leather and forest floor scents that take time to cohere. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, austere like so many of the Côte de Nuits reds, and a slightly dry finish. (Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2024)

Château Lafon-Rochet

Caymus Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

The mystery starts with a deep, rich garnet color followed by a variety of fragrances which follows suit with a Caymus Cab. Sweet blackberries, sugar-infused strawberries, aromatic hints of juniper berries, cinnamon, eucalyptus and vanilla. Medium tannins, naturally complex and yet extra bold! Add this Cab to your list at a special occasion or with the one you love! — 3 years ago

Domaine Charvin

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2007

Such youth and freshness going on from such a rich and heady vintage. These wines age so well. At first the nose was loaded with chocolate covered cherries, raspberry coulis and lavender. With air the more mineral and herbal notes that define these wines really came through. Crushed stones, garrigue, cool herbs, juniper and hot iron. Several hours of air and the exotic spice and leathery tertiary notes began to come through with spice cake, truffles, old leather, cinnamon, amaro, cloves, mushroom and roast meat. Gorgeous fruit on all fronts and subtle tannic strength. Brett is spot on, adds so much complexity and never detracting. — 4 years ago

Bernard Levet

La Chavaroche Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2007

Opened and decanted about an hour before dinner. No formal notes. The 2007 B. Levet "La Chavaroche" is flat out beautiful right now. The aromatics are off the charts with gorgeous, ripe dark fruits, a bit of the animal, a veritable hillside of lavender, black olives, some deli case, black pepper, some leather and earth. The structure is still firm but everything is well integrated at this point; superbly balanced; great acid. The finish is long and has some ferrous minerals that I simply love. A sublime pairing with a Morgan Ranch Wagyu tenderloin served with corn purée, charred broccolini and juniper ash. The 2007's are absolutely ready to drink now with a short decant (mostly to remove any sediment) however, they will continue to drink well for another 10+ easy from good cellars.

That’s a lot of detailed good info for “no formal notes.” Setting the bar very high!

@Tom Casagrande 😅, I guess I should define formal. For me, it’s defined by taking the wine “through the grid” and most social settings are inappropriate for that

Juniper+Oak

Juniper Estate

Juniper Crossing Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2017

Bought this as an afterthought and quite pleased that I did. It's complex and rich, with blackcurrant/plum fruit, cedary oak and soft tannins all on the same page. Great value. — 3 years ago

Giacomo Mori

Chianti Sangiovese 2019

N: Cherries and strawberries, some sandalwood. Almost juniper. Forest.
P: Med-Light body, nice acid/tannin balance. For inexpensive Chianti, not bad all. Great for weeknight pasta in sausage ragu.

Cargasacchi

Pinot Noir 2007

9.5

Deep ruby.
Nose is initially a bit shy. With air, in tulip glass and paired with homemade shepherd's pie; this shows juniper berry, bitter cherry pit/bark, bracing digestif herbs. In a big Burgundy stem, shows some rose hip, acerola, crushed creosote leaf, damp pine forest. This is one heck of a complex nose.
Palate is medium bodied, tannins are fine, long and surprisingly dry, not on the mid palate but one the finish with a black tea/amaro like bitterness that lingers.
I really wish I had more as this is my last bottle.

Sounds like some great stuff, never heard of them

Ed, I don't think they are vinifying their own wines anymore, maybe only selling grapes. I saw Loring Wine Co, Bonaccorsi and Pali in recent vintages.

BTW was introduced to Peter C. While working with Sashi Moorman when he was making wines at Stolpman and consulting for Bonaccorsi in 2004, just after Mike had passed away. The Lompoc wine ghetto was a place of fraternity as I recall.

Château du Hureau

Tuffe Saumur-Champigny Cabernet Franc 2017

100% Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. No oak. Fermented in Stainless Steel tanks. Rich dark cherry and cassis fruit aromas with herbal, wild mushroom and tobacco notes. Full dark fruit flavors with herbal and leather hints. Touch of juniper berry on the full and long finish. Great balance between fruit and organics. — 3 years ago
