Valle de Guadalupe Petite Sirah 2022

Dark, glass-clinging purple with near black core. Inviting nose and full palate of natural blueberry jam (without canning sugar) and drying blackberries. Medium acidity and medium minus tannins lend support to an otherwise "chonky" mouthfeel. Finish is brief and a wee bit Louisville slugger. My first wine from Mexico (Guadeloupe Valley, Baja California) turns out to be a quite satisfying drink. Not a blockbuster by any means, but well within typical style for the variety from a warm climate. And a good value at twelve bucks. Drink within the year with meatloaf now or burgers from the grill next cookout. — 6 months ago

Golgotha Widowmaker Block Hudson Vineyards Syrah 2010

Golgotha - Scholium Project 2010.
Widowmaker Block Hudson Vineyards.

Abe, the man who would be king, gifted this bottle (amongst many others) to me after being an Intern in 2013. They travelled from Napa to London to Western Australia.
15 years later on a Monday night of a week I wasn’t meant to be drinking…
I pulled it out of the wine fridge in Margaret River. Cork fresh as a daisy and some decent sediment on first pour. Aerated with Vinturi and poured. Some early VA blew away and a Star Was Born. The floral powderiness on my mid palate is intoxicating. Never before have I tasted a big inky, 15% delicate ballerina like this. So glad I opened it alone so we can have a week together understanding each other. Has to be Petite Syrah. Wine study X 1000 ♥️ Pretty Pimpin

First time trying and wow - nicely woven integrated wine but my friend and fellow wine nerd @Shay A says it best so borrowing his comments from 2018 and I quote

“Jarvis winery is one of my all time favorite winery visits in Napa. Their caves are the most impressive I've seen, along with their natural springs running through the tunnels. Their merlot is my favorite out of Napa, and their
Cab Franc is a close second. This is 95% CF, 5% merlot. It balances ripe Napa CF and Loire Valley CF. Streak of green bell pepper down the middle with herbal spice, ripe
blackberry and stemmy dark fruits. There is plum, and spice cake on the finish. This needed an hour+ for the mid palate to beefen up and match the entry and finish”

Bravo and well said Shay - glad I found my patience with this wine bud

Reserva Privada Valle de Guadalupe Vino Tinto Nebbiolo 2016

This Mexican red wine certainly feels earthy and fruity like other Valle de Guadalupe wines I have had. This wine, though comes from the Italian grape Nebbiolo, doesn’t really have the sharpness (full tannins) most Italian wines have and most often need a food pairing. This wine because it’s light, smooth and almost Zin-like without being overly sweet. — 6 years ago
