As you can see from my previous Delectable notes I normally drink Mollydooker reds, particularly Carnival of Love, on cold nights in Winter. This certainly worked. Aromatics of black plum and other black fruits. The palate is ripe, sweet and full bodied - quite thick and textured. Has come together somewhat after 15 years but still a very powerful McLaren Vale Shiraz. Jeb Dunnuck’s comment of “full bore and hedonistic “ sums it up. This was the #2 wine in Wine Spectators Top 100 of 2012. — 7 months ago
Cayuse Vineyards Special Series #2 Grenache 2009, Walla Walla Valley, Washington State
#AgedWineTuesday
Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Strong nose of black currants, black plums, barnyard, vegetables, light wood, dark chocolates, herbs, tar, light burnt rubber, spices and blood notes.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, dried fruits, black tea, chocolates, vegetables, peppercorn, earth, herbs, blood, tar and rubber.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.
This is a delicious Grenache from the Rock District in Walla Walla Valley. Rich and fruit forward. Very complex and spicy.
Drinking beautifully now, and will continue to do so in the next 5 to 7 years.
Peaking now, and very elegant. Soft and smooth. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.
Interesting stuff, and not for the faint of heart, but so delicious, and a great sipping wine to share with friends and talk about.
A tiny production of only 125 Magnum bottles made.
14.1% alcohol by volume.
93 points.

A tale of two cities. Bottle #1 had an enjoyable nose of decaying earth, red fruits and with air some darker fruit. One could tell it was a ‘96 given the unresolved tannins and the powerful acid. Mushrooms and darker fruit in the mouth. Bottle #2 unfortunately was DOA.. Very shrill and stewed fruit. — 3 months ago

This wine screams right bank Bordeaux supported by a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. A dark Ruby red in colour this has a lovely perfume with aromas of plum, cigar box, dried bracken and roses, tobacco and spice. Cinnamon and nutmeg from the oak. 70% of the French Oak barrels were new. Medium plus bodied. The tannins are there but lessening in impact. 14.5% ABV. This wine was #2 in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 of 2013. A near neighbour of the aristocratic Chateau Ausone. — 3 days ago
