Gallina Barbera d'Alba 2000

Ming L
9.5

Never tasted this bottling before, I just hoped for a decent showing. Instead, it completely reshaped my view of Barbera.

Deep opaque garnet with a slight tawny rim. The nose is captivating with blackberry jam, fig, cedar, dry pine cone, worn leather, clove, and a hint of truffle. Seamless palate - full body with vibrant
acidity, supple tannins that still have firm grip, and a velvety texture. Long, elegant finish. Still has 5–8 graceful years ahead. By far the best Barbera I’ve tasted.

In Rhino I trust.

Vürsù Vigneto Campè Nebbiolo 2009

9.5

Tasted it about 2 years ago. Now it’s showing greater harmony, revealing layers of dark cherry, plum, rose, and cedar framed by supple yet still assertive tannins. The oak has begun to meld, allowing earthy spice and truffle nuances to emerge. From the lesser-known Grinzane Cavour, its muscular core is balanced with poise and depth, promising further refinement over the next few years. — 6 days ago

Il Nero di Casanova Toscana Sangiovese 2020

Ming L
8.9

The winery’s entry level Sangiovese bottling. Aged 15 months in second-use French oak for 2020 vintage, it delivers a darker-fruited profile while preserving Sangiovese’s classic character. A versatile, crowd-pleasing choice and pairs especially well Northern Italian pasta dishes. — 3 months ago

What beautiful white wine. The nose is peaches, ocean, sage, grass, like hiking in a field in summer. Palate is mineral driven with good acidity. More stone fruit, sea salt, some more greenery. I love it. Better after 90 minutes of air and closer to cellar temp — 4 months ago

Il Rosé di Casanova Prugnolo Gentile - Sangiovese Rosé Blend

Not too many Sangiovese roses in my life. This is good. As it warms it gets much more earthy and vegetal. A lot of red watermelon, but overall savory. Pretty great with bbq. I’m guessing not so great with lighter fare or to crush over an afternoon. — 3 months ago
