White and red wine at the same time… in this economy?? — 3 years ago
Great full body wine. Packs the kick of cab. Spicy and not too sweet. Good finish in back of mouth. Buy again. Bought at Bonnie Brae, Xander rec. — 4 years ago

Made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, not Pinot Gris. Had a glass of this with dessert - no written notes again. Truly unctuous and delicious. Ripe pear and quince notes with low acid and profound intensity. A petrochemical/paraffin note. Made at the winery where we are having lunch. An excellent effort for a dessert wine from Montalto. Big fruit flavor raspberry, full body, silky savory. I was a fan — a year ago
I have no idea(yet) of the grapes in this.
The label says the vines are up to 140 yrs.
N: Lots of blood, tobacco, saline qualities. Poured blind, one may think an earthy burg that’s young. Some dark berried fruit. Liquorice.
P: Very delicate, much lighter on the palate than the nose would lead. Open for an hour, no tannic grip yet. Lots of woodland flavors. Tempered ( my guess) by an Atlantic clime. Easy , yet 14°
Glad it came home with me.

Even though Montalto Estate is not based at Red Hill this block from which the fruit was sourced is pretty much in the spiritual home of Mornington with neighbours like Main Ridge Estate close by. Aromatics of Rose petals, red cherry and Sous Bois. Palate is delicious and intense bordering on profound. Rich red fruits, earthy, with a supple finish - the local Red Hill signature if you like. A fabulous Mornington Peninsula Pinot, not dissimilar to the Main Ridge Estate Half Acre we had recently. Luckily I have one left which I will leave for a couple of years if I have the willpower! — 5 days ago
