Odd Side Ales

Domaine Michaut Frères

Vau-Ligneau Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2021

It's a peculiar chablis. The nose is rich with pear, white peach, fresh white grapes juice, lemon curd, honey. It's smelling almost botrytised. The palate is a bit more classical, with a good acid drive, with a bit of a chalky mouthfeel, lemon and lime juice, some grip and a long, fresh finish that goes on for a while. It's quite good but not at all standard on the nose. And interestingly, the very tropical and rich nose doesn't really translate into a tropical and rich palate. I have another bottle of this wine on the side that I will open soon to check whether there might be a touch of premox that could explain the odd nose. — 24 days ago

Prodigo Syrah

8.9

Always like tasting Syrah’s and this from Italy is no exception. This is pretty aromatic with obvious pepper tones and an vegetational characteristics. Not like floral to me but more like the smell of brush in the summertime. Odd and most likely incorrect but something I remembered from being a kid. I think it drank well. A little warm on the mouth. The berries come through and there was a touch of green pepper. Side note I had this with bulgogi and that flavor could have been an off shoot of the meal. It really went well with the meal. Overall, this is a fun bottle of wine to drink. Good price point and good with the right foods. — 6 years ago

Odd Side Ales Mayan Mocha Stout

Rich, exotic, spicy, and excellently balanced! I imagine Mayan Mocha Stout might be the closest proxy to the fermented chocolate concoctions that Mayan sacrificial victims were given!!! — 8 years ago

Oddtoberfest Märzenbier

Persimmon colored amber with bone white crown showing yellow orange hues. Lace rock bridges crumble to wolves howling, then to sauropods gliding. The residual ice shelf showed a clear question mark. Now this one brings the nose-bread, with honeyed brown, potato, and dinner roll; lightest citrus note reflections. Grilled lemon and ripe lemon bathe one another with cola and ginger while a bitter acorn asserts. Light brown sugar and even a cinnamon edge protrude as grapefruit takes the helm and captains this interesting animal into the beyond. Spicy, citrusy, gleaming.

Alvarado Street Brewery

Yeast Of Eden Skeptics & Believers 2017

Side project of the brewery that only does sour ales and I think most are barrel aged. This is pretty good, nectarine, white cherry, lemon candy, moderately crisp and a little fluffy and not sharp like a gose or heavy sour — 7 years ago

Domaine Dujac

Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1993

Reddish tawny, brighter than the Roumier sibling next to it. Odd nose which had some people guessing Italian. Turns out all this needed (like the 93 Roumier BM next to it) was a lot of air. Notes of bright red fruit, sandalwood and Asian spice came on later in the evening. Has a long life in front of it, but great to compare/contrast this and the Roumier side by side tonight. Odd Lot Red Blend

I really like this. It’s a little complex and dry but super drinkable straight out of the bottle. A little on the sweeter side. Love it. — 4 years ago

Pedroncelli

East Side Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2013

This is the 2013 vintage.

In the glass, the color is a lovely, vibrant yellow. Not insipid in the least!

On the nose, in addition to the normal Citrus and grassy notes, there's a slight buttery character. A little bit odd, since this wine is fermented in stainless steel. Not overpowering, and not bad. Just not what I was expecting.

On the palate, this wine is hugely pineapple! There are a little bit of green or slightly grassy notes around the perimeter, but not deeply rooted. The flavor is bold and riich. The alcohol is faintly present and not overwhelming. This ain't your mama's "Napa Valley mouthwash! I love it!

Fleur de Pedesclaux

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Expect a lot from this wine. This is the second wine of Cháteau Pédesclaux , Deep , violet, dark- plum oak cherry harmony in the nose . Spiced - perfumed oak ... Odd resemblance to Californian Cabernet . Tastes more on the meritage side of winemaking — 9 years ago
