Initial drink hits the back of your mouth with a intense interesting fruit flavor. Sweeter finish. Citrus.not very grassy but mild notes as your mouth sits. Not a traditional Marlborough Sauvignon blanc but very tasty and interesting. — 5 years ago

The 2018 Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc comes from the hilltops above Marlborough’s Awatere Valley. It shows 12.5% abv and sells for $22. Erica Crawford says, “New Zealand’s signature varietal tends to be bold and big,” thanks in no small part to her husband. This wine, she says, “focuses on texture rather than enhanced aromatics.” It went through 25% malolactic fermentation in order to soften the wine. Sure enough, it’s tamer and fruitier on the nose than their previous efforts. The minerals are still there, but the sometimes overwhelming greenness is replaced by a great fruit flavor. The 2017 vintage is a little grassier on the nose and palate, but still mild in comparison to the earlier profile. — 7 years ago
I’ve never understood why New Zealand’s aromatic wines haven’t amassed more attention - they’re Pinot Gris wines are consistently some of my favorites outside of Alsace. Loveblock is Erica and Kim Crawford's present project, after selling the popular Kim Crawford label. While still 5 g/l residual sugar, Loveblock's Pinot Gris captivates with its spice and savory flavors - jasmine, white rose, peach skin and white pepper. Beaming with aroma, on the palate the wine finds a more taut precision. A delicious challenge to Sauvignon Blanc's dominance of the Marlborough landscape. — 8 years ago

Excellent Cab Franc. Paired nicely with a grilled ribeye. A bit pricy at $55. — 5 years ago
Erica Orr has quietly been making one of the great stainless steel Chardonnays in Washington State. Showing unripe pear and melon tones on the nose with shades of baking spice, the palate has great freshness and texture with a silky mouthfeel that entices. With excellent length, I would not have taken this for an unoaked Chardonnay. Enjoy this in the short-term while the wonderful brightness remains. Drink 2020-2025 — 6 years ago

260 cases produced. Ruby red, excellent clarity, moderate to high pigment extraction. Raspberry, briars, tangerine peel in nose with black pepper notes in nose and mouth but mostly raspberry with some plum, cherry and blackberry. Balanced acid, alcohol. Mineral and saline traces on finish. Others get rose water in the mouth as well; maybe. Light skin astringency emerges after 30 minutes. For me, this is nectar of the gods. Thanks, Erica! — 5 months ago
