Henschke

Hill of Grace Vineyard Shiraz 1998

Sunday lunch, where we always drink the best wine of the week. A perfect match with roast lamb. Lighter in colour than expected - almost transparent. Quite barnyard with the aromatics surprisingly with a little tobacco and dark chocolate. The opulent black fruits of its youth have transformed into a much more savoury wine after 25 years. This brings into question the age old query as to when to pop the cork on old wines. This was a terrific old wine but it left me thinking I would like a bit more fruit on the palate before those silky soft tannins. Still, it remains one of the world’s great wines in one of the most iconic vineyards with 140 year + old vines. The 2018 has just been released amid several 100 point scores and touted as one of the great H of G’s but at $950 I will pass. — 2 years ago

@ESF Certainly on my bucket list to visit the Hill of Grace vineyard with the old Lutheran Church. Will send shivers down one’s spine. See some of the excellent Henschke video clips.

Domaine Collotte

Les Crais de Chêne Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Fixin Pinot Noir 2011

Bright & lifted fruit- very expressive for its youth. Delicious in palate- layered and varietal. Textured. Drinking beautifully now - query it's forward nature for such a young wine.... — 10 years ago

Cune Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2010

Really digging this well-rounded Rioja with supple tannins. Fabulous match with grilled lamb chops. Inspires the query: “If you like it so much why don’t you marry it.?” — 6 years ago

First impressions: Big, ripe Aussie Cabernet. It calmed down a bit after some air, but didn't quite scale the heights. Pretty straightforward and I dare say one dimensional in its all-out assault of black fruits. Maybe one for the cellar, although balance re: alcohol may be a query. — 8 years ago

Louis Jadot

Clos de la Croix de Pierre Pernand-Vergelesses Chardonnay 2016

Decanted ~1hr.

Nose is the epitome of pineapple core with buttered popcorn and white flowers sneaking around.

Palate exudes tropical fruits, pineapple, papaya, lychee, light mango...All with low acidity making this so ridiculously enjoyable.

I can't believe I've found a Jadot we like better then the 2013 Ladoix Blanc, but here we are, home run (or 2004 Dave Roberts base steal), amazing, like wow!

2016 Burgundy...🎙drop.

One last question query to the Delectable community, I'm not sure of the exact vineyard here, I think it might be Sous Frétille, if you know, let me know. Thanks!

Oops, sorry, some portions of En Caradeux are apparently village, but if I'm reading the maps right, this is a stone's throw from the en Charlemagne vinyeard (within Corton-Charlemagne)

Syrah 2011

Very fruity, lots of red berry flavor with tartness and a bit of earthy, peppery finish. — 11 years ago
