So, the back label on the bottle says this wine is from “The Last Row” with 100+ year old vines, with also some juice from some 50-90 year old vines from an adjacent row or three. @Bob McDonald, do you have any info/insights about this cuvée, I figure I only was able to buy some because we tasted it on site and bought it there?? Thanks @Bob McDonald!!

@Doug Powers Doug , back in 2021 my wife and I did vintage at Bellwether in Coonawarra and one night Sue Bell had a dinner party and invited Bruce Redman and his wife Winnie over. He is part owner and winemaker. Interestingly Coonawarra was first known for Shiraz but these days Cabernet is king so I’m not surprised there are ancient Shiraz vines that were sourced for this wine but I have no experience with the wine itself. Redman, are an old and highly respected Coonawarra winery.

GRU Adelaide Hills Grüner Veltliner 2019

Served blind by me at Sue Bell’s dinner party with Bruce Redman. After being tricked by Sue all week with blind tastings at the winery I was determined to get square. She was up to the task getting just the state wrong. Once I said Adelaide Hills she knew it was a Gruner. Hahndorf Hill are acknowledged as the best producers of Gruner in Australia. Taking its lead from the GV’s of Austria’s Kamptal region. Grapefruit, Citrus and stone fruit. A multi award winner on the Australian Show circuit. A gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards London 2020. — 4 years ago

@Bob McDonald have only had their Cabernet (which was quite delicious). Will have to find a bottle.

@Simon Gilligan Quite close to a cellar door visit from where you live. Worth the trip to taste all their GVs. I was a bit disappointed with their Blaufrankisch but I don’t have much experience with this varietal.

William Wilson Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2016

Had this at Peppers in Penola during dinner. A deliciously full-bodied wine with dark macerated fruits, leather, and classic Australian earthiness. The tannins were firm yet well-integrated, and the warmth added richness to the overall profile. The story—a collaboration between two historic Coonawarra families—adds to its appeal, and the terroir shines through with depth and character. A memorable bottle that truly delivered. — 4 months ago

Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2006

From a 6 Litre Imperial. Surprisingly developed coming from such a huge bottle from one of the oldest producers in the Coonawarra in REDMAN. Still had the Coonawarra mint chocolate and blackberry but also showing Leather earthy savoury notes. An old school style. — 7 years ago
