Riserva Assisi Sangiovese 1997

A house favorite, even when I leave the house. The fruit is fresh and vibrant, tannins are fully integrated, and enough acid punch left to foil well with Osso Bucco. Likely a one-hit wonder from this relatively unknown producer in Umbria. — 6 years ago

Assisi Rosso Sangiovese Blend 1997

Just a baby. Tons of tannin and acidity. Umbrian Sangio's are much bolder. A whiff of Brett also, so tons of aromatics here. Totally needs food to explore it's reach. — 8 years ago

I was thinking Cab on this one, and just as surprised as others that this was a '97. Drinking very young. I've enjoyed a number of Umbrian wines, but was not familiar with this producer. Will keep an eye out for these at auction.

This was by far the most difficult wine to identify in the blind red flight. I thought it might be a Sicilian Nero D'Avola or maybe a Montepulciano or Amarone. It is an infant at age 20. A lot of classy underpinnings but still quite volatile, closed and a little sharp. Dark as night and moody AF.

Rosso Assisi 2006

The Lovely developed nose with some complexity with a dark red color and a medium to full body with some complexity that hides its 14.5% alcohol any has a medium length but nice aftertaste. Worth the money. — 6 years ago
