Adjacent profile wise to Northern Rhone: gamey, mineral & earthiness to it’s core; it’s the decaying rose petals, & hibiscus edges (& lighter shades) that point to its true, Nebbiolo soul. I’ve heard some wine folks mourn the loss of the original Valana, & that the younger family upstarts can’t come close to the originals. I don’t know, but for about 25$ this is is dang-it good Alpine red. — 7 months ago

So young...modern, shows extract and richness but I find it to be a great example of this style. Richly fruited, ripe, mouth-coating with its extract and sweet tannin. Underneath its Gigondas originals remain; soaked black cherry fruit, liquor, boysenberry compote, juniper, cinnamon, roasted rocks, meaty and sauvage undertones, truffle. I think this could go 20 years no problem. — 4 years ago
