The 2019 Mâcon-Verzé Les Chênes was ordered from the list at Au Fil du Zinc in Chablis, principally because it is not shown whenever I visit Leflaive in Puligny. It acquits itself well. It's fresh on the nose with orchard fruit and white tea, though I would not describe it as complex. However, it exudes presence and concentration. The palate has commendable weight and is well-balanced. The acidity neatly counterbalances the concentrated fruit, dovetailing into a brioche-tinged finish with sufficient salinity to beg another sip. Polished off over dinner, it cost 60 Euros on the list. Money well spent. (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2023)

2018 vintage. That sumptuous Graves nose of herbs and chocolate milk. Light medium body. Petite spell of astringency with paprika, zinc and orange peel in the finish currently but it dissolves after twelve seconds or so and the aforementioned herbs come back into play on a lingering, subtle denouement. — 5 years ago
Lovely #whitepeach #strawberry at first sip, finishing with hint of #whitepepper, bright acidity and fruit forward. Just enough of fizzy zinc . Perfect for a warm late spring day in NYC — 6 years ago
The 2015 Chablis Les Butteaux 1er Cru was actually ordered from the list at "Au Fil du Zinc" restaurant. What a fabulous Chablis! Oyster shell and slivers of white peach on the nose, a hint of orange pith developing later – the aromatics have wonderful definition. The palate is beautifully balanced with a slightly viscous texture, veins of white peach and apricot with an underlying mineralité to maintain tension. Wonderful! Tasting lunch at Au Fil de Zinc in Chablis. First experience with Maconnais. Good Chardonnay, with floral notes. — 10 months ago
2007 vintage. Decanted and tasted immediately and throughout 1.5 hours. Medium/medium-heavy body. Initially filled with Chambord and sweaty saddle flavors and aromas. Picked up some copper/aluminum flavors along with a distinct, pushy zinc finish after that 1.5 hours. Seems to have enough personality to go steady for another 5-6 years without a noticeable drop-off. 11.12.23. — 3 years ago
2014 vintage. This is the red. Cinnamon, allspice, herbs, sea salt/brine in the nose. An doppelgänger Bandol-light body. A touch riper mid-palate than expected. Previous baby fat gonzo. Green peppercorn also present in the nose but a slight zinc/iodine flavor on the finish shortly after opening. Expecting that to blow off/roll away…it wasn’t there a few months ago. Seemingly in transition but still delicious. If I weren’t so lazy at home, woulda decanted. Lazy tho. Judge not... — 4 years ago

17+. I wish were at a zinc in Paris drinking this. Great nose and fruit, hugely satisfying. — 6 years ago
Peach yogurt, yogurt, yogurt, yogurt/zinc... other than that, jammy bramble, black pepper, spearmint. Pretty pink/ruby at medium concentration. Little staining. Dry with ripe (overripe?!) attack. Moderate acidity and tight tannin. Full throttle. — 8 years ago
Rust coloured, medium tannins, (resto Zinc, rue de la roquette, Paris 75011) live band was about to start before we left 😢 — 8 years ago

2021 vintage. Smoke and cinnamon in the nose. Medium-heavy body. That smoke and cinnamon along with a little prune, graham-cracker, cracked black pepper, a dash of white pepper, white sage, zinc and salt water fill out the flavor profile. Definitely intriguing. — 3 years ago
2017 vintage. Oh. Wow. Blue/black fruit, dusty cedar and rhubarb in the nose. Silky medium body. The cedar (and a bit of oak) galloping through on a body thinning finish that ends up supremely dry after collecting zinc, orange peel and sea salt. This baby needs some TLC in the cellar and will grow up to be an absolute monster. — 5 years ago
17+ full fruit, good length, quite delicious. At a zinc in Paris (I wish). — 6 years ago

1989 vintage. Last tasted 3 years ago (9.6). Nice fill. Durand used to open. Cork 95% saturated with extensive bottle rim cleaning involved before pouring. Not decanted. Tight, minty nose throughout along with a decided, lingering zinc note under the tongue at the finish line. Tasted 2 hours after opening. Power but without delineation. Just a consistent, forgettable push. Nothing wrong with the wine...it just needed more air/time and a decant but it wasn't my call. Feel like the zinc flavor would have dissipated/blown off with more time. Good but more memorable for what it wasn't vs what it was. Pity and an entire wasting of what could have been. 11.21.25. — 7 months ago
