Château de Chaintres

Les Sables Saumur Champigny Cabernet Franc 2020

Lovely wine. On the nose, huge amounts of smoke bramble, and strawberry. Classic pepper. Baking spices or cinnamon and nutmeg. Tons of juicy red fruit up front, boysenberry jam with great acidity that lingers.

It took 3hrs to reveal its inner self, but when it did, wow.
Exceptional poise, balance and grace. Warm and silky presentation with bold tannins and moderate acidity. Could use more time, but stunning now. Happy birthday,

@Scott Rose, @Brent Young, I was thrilled with this. Gladly, I have several bottles from their first wines. 2005 for sure!

Stolpman Vineyards

Combe Ballard Canyon Trousseau 2019

For acid lovers in their red wine, this $20-25 bottle is phenomenal. Acid, pickled red fruit, unripe fruit, soft tannins, minerality, it’s all there. It’s almost as if Beaujolais and Champagne (the sour and creamy mouthfeel of a champagne) had a lovechild. Trousseau is a grape originated in Jura, France. This is a super food friendly wine, but I am drinking without food and it’s very easy finish a bottle on your own… — 3 years ago

Sounds nice 👍 @Rashed Chowdhury 🍷

Bacchus

California Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

One of my favourite Reds on rotation. Pairs well with most weeknight dinners and is usually on sale at Whole Foods wine — 3 years ago

Clean Slate

Mosel Riesling 2019

I really like the German Rieslings because they tend to get really good fruit (lemon, unripe peach, a touch of petrol) with low ABV. This is a nice dry but still fruity option and I will buy it again and often. — 3 years ago

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Le Petit Ducru Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

If you drink a lot of pleasant, simple wine (like I do), the first complex wine in a while can wake the sense like a Wim Hoff ice bath. Le Petit Ducru is also a due reminder that I should drink more Bordeaux.

Intense, rich, layered. Pours velvet ribbons of violet tinted motor oil. About 100 layers of aromatics - cassis, syrupy blackberries, leather, coffee, milk chocolate. Big juicy grippy tannin. Flavors of dark cherry plum, mocha, laden with minerals and juicy berries. Real symphony on hand.

Cannubi Boschis Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

Earthy and rose aromas. Cherry, tobacco and spice. Dry with fine tannins. Perfect with cream sauce pizza with ricotta, pancetta and shaved black truffle. Last hurrah before newborn arrives. — 3 years ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Alion

Ribera Del Duero Tempranillo 2014

Vega Sicilia’s entry-level red, 100% Tempranillo from 30 years old vineyards in Padilla, Valbuena de Duero y Pesquera de Duero. Modern-style Ribera del Duero. Aged in French oak barrels for 12-14 months. Dark ruby color. Complex nose with aromas of red and dark fruit (dark cherry, ripe blackberries), smoke, mint, sweet spices and a whiff of vanilla. Pure, fresh and juicy. Medium to full bodied, silky, very elegant, balanced. Good acidity — 3 years ago

Château Calon-Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Second excellent super aged wine in a couple of weeks. First the $11.99 1978 Ch Beaucastel CDP and now the 1982 Calon Sequr, don’t have a price on this as it was an anniversary gift from my wife but sure not anywhere close to the current vintage costs. Anyway, the color was bright and clear and no brick edge at all. The nose and taste were complex with herbs, dried cherries and some pencil lead & cedar. Very smooth drinking with no hard edges and a very nice long finish. I opened, decanted and tasted right away and it seemed quite closed. Had with dinner about 3 hours later and it was all there. Kept a bit in the glass and had that after the boring Eagles game and no changes. I would not hold this wine any longer and why would you anyway, drink up and enjoy. Why do some 44 and 40 year old wines hold so well when others fade away so early? — 3 years ago

@Jerry Raphael I think the excellent 1982 vintage in Bordeaux would have a lot to do with how well this wine showed.
