Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet

Fixin Pinot Noir 2016

Punches above its weight in purity of fruit. Raspberries and dark cherries with a hint of game. Elegant yet with lots of structure. β€” 4 years ago

Thierry Allemand

Chaillot Cornas Syrah 2011

The aromatics outshined the palate for me. Started off with red fruit. With an hr of air the fruit turned more dark and the body more full. Allemand are such a treat. Wish I could afford more. β€” 4 years ago

Domaine Dozon

Clos du Saut au Loup Chinon Cabernet Franc 2018

Black cherry, plum , potting soil, violets, and herbs on the nose. Similar notes continue on the palate with raspberry, blackberry, a few roses, currant, pencil lead, and touches of white pepper and cinnamon. Very classic, balanced, and harmonious. β€” 4 years ago

Came on with time in the glass. Chocolate, luxando cherries, cassis, green olives, mushrooms, forest floor, resin, silky feel. Not bad for a Wednesday night. β€” 4 years ago

Long finish on this β€˜06 though not as big as current vintages of Darius II . Good flow and structure to the wine. β€” 4 years ago

Soumah

Equilibrio Single Vineyard Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2018

β€˜Best in Show’ at the 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards πŸ†

Well done Soumah and thank you so much for sharing a bottle of your award winning Yarra Valley (VIC) 2018 Equilibrio Chardonnay with us. It’s a true beauty πŸ₯°

Equilibrio means balance and that’s exactly what Soumah set out to achieve (and succeeded) when making this wine - a balance between acidity and fruit with no edges.

We enjoyed this $80 bottle in the best way we could - just the two of us (I wouldn’t want to share it with anyone else, Mr Spittoon was actually lucky to get some πŸ˜‚), on the couch in my trackies and slippers. It was pure delicious relaxation!

It was like a meal in a glass - so flavoursome and delicious. Utterly smooth and silky and the flavours only got better the more the wine warmed up (as opposed to straight out of the fridge). Right from the beautiful yellow shimmering gold hue, I was in love. Orchard fruits, pastry, citrus and some nuttiness come through on both the nose and in the mouth. Delectable!

This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Les Parcelles Bouzy Grand Cru Champagne Blend

You didn’t think this wasn’t making an encore appearance after last weekend did you?

This n/v oxidative leaning styled Champange speaks better to the pairing than the more reductive styled Launois Champagne last weekend. Not that the reductive wasn’t really good. It’s a yin & yang thing that makes this Champagne pairing more suitable.

What a dessert pair!!! Waited too long to make happen. Make sure you do it during high apple season.

Intermixed sips of 2015 White Burgundy doesn’t hurt either.
