Vintage 2015 / wine from #umbria central #italy with the unusual blend of #sangiovese #sagrantino and #merlot (on barrel). It was quite harsh in bitters/aftertaste immediately after opening, tannins also. But when it had aeration the wine softened and even shows frivolousness 🙃 Beautiful strawberries in smell, smooth taste. I liked this transformation. Awesome PRQ. I presume it will even gets better within a few years. — 6 years ago
Some #sagrantino tonight #2008 #scacciadiavoli #umbria #italy #redwine #montefalco — 9 years ago
The wine delivers aromas of ripe red fruits like black cherry and raspberries. It has strong notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and other smoked aromas. In the palate you can feel the tart red fruit flavors mixed with vegetal notes of green pepper and other herbal flavors.
It is one of Central Italy's most tannic wines. A ver interesting and recommended bottle! 🍷
About the producer: "Azienda Agraria Scacciadiavoli is an estate in Umbria situated in the wine producing region of Montefalco. It has been owned by the Pambuffetti family since 1954.
The name "Scacciadiavoli" stems from the words "scacciare", meaning to banish, and "diavoli", the Italian word for devils. This unusual name can be traced back to an 18th century exorcism of a woman, whereby she was given red wines as a means of expelling the demon from her body."
Cheers to Italy! 🍷

Paolo Bea never ceases to amaze me. The 2011 San Valentino is gorgeous, showing an Autumnal persona, with a bouquet of crushed cherry, plum, and blood orange, giving way to notes of sweet mint, licorice, crushed fall leaves and black tea. On the palate, I found a zesty expression, sporting light yet energetic textures, as citrus-kissed sour cherry, sweet herbal tones and spice filled the senses. The finish was medium-long and literally thirst quenching, with mouthwatering acidity accentuating it's red fruits and lingering inner floral tones which faded slowly. An amazing "entry level" wine. #paolobea #montefalco #sagrantino — 7 years ago

I’m a huge VJB fan but I gotta be honest that I was a bit disappointed in this #sagrantino. It drinks similarly to a Dry Creek Valley old vine Zin. Big fruit lovers will rejoice but I was looking for more bright acidity and it was a touch syrupy for my preference. — 5 years ago
Vintage 2012 / Ha, in a blind tasting I thought this was a Brunello. 🤨 it does not have that typical stubborness of #sagrantino that I like do much. Brown rim, shy smell with cedar, noble. So much refinement. It may be a bit atypical for #umbria but who cares? — 6 years ago

#sagrantino #doloresoutpost Big tannins. Fruit up front. #2015italy It’s approachable now and should integrate better over the next 3-5 years. — 4 years ago
