Au Bon Climat
Nuits-Blanches au Bouge Santa Maria Valley Estate Bottled Chardonnay
Wonderful example.
Nose displays hazelnut, brioche and beeswax. Palate is perfectly balanced and weighted. Honied white fruits combine with moderate acidity, and subtle oak. Whether it’s chard or pinot, ABC has a great wine portfolio, at a modest price.
And yes, drinking mid-week - we broke down like old deck chairs - guilty as charged 😔

Granny Smith apple, honey, lemon, peach, blood orange and oak on the palate. Great acidity and balance.

May 8th, 2020The bright acidity, which is a bit too aggressive IMO, led a flamboyant entry. Then the ripe stone fruits, lees, and toasty oak took over. Racy yet supple.
Like no others(無二)?Might be. But Jim’s larger than life personality certainly shows in this wine.

N: Lemons, ginger, banana peel, very fresh, like a just passed thunderstorms sun. You can smell the oak, but it’s like a ghost in the background.
P:Lemon custard, ever so light, creamy, tart, long finish, slight wood. He was really talented.
R.I.P. Jim Clendenen
If served this “ blind”, very few would peg it as a Cali Chard. A stylistic response to criticism of previous, over the top Chards.
With time and air, some flinty mineral goodness appears along with the sensation of citrus pith.
