Bodegas Numanthia
Numanthia Toro Tempranillo
One of the most contemporary Tempranillos out there.
Big, bold cherries on the nose and palate. Tannic and broad-shouldered. Not in the zone at this point. Give in another 5 years and this will sing. Wifey gave the expression that somebody stole the jam from her donut cos of the tobacco overload!

A great bottle gifted from, @Mo Salem’s cellar - thank you, bro.
We tipped a glass while we discussed the next phase of our renovations.
This wine is rich, contemporary and tightly wound. Notes of strawberries and forest floor on the nose. Tannins are underripe, but well assembled. Nice notes of barrel toast and coffee on the mid-palate. Finishes with sweetness, tobacco, focus and precision. This is a cellar buy.

Located in the Toro region of Spain with 4 vineyards located along the south bank of the Duero River. The wine named after a legendary Spanish city that was destroyed (after 20 yrs of resistance) by Roman legions. A powerhouse of aromas and flavors, dark fruit, spice and earthy scents. On the palate blackberry and currant flavors with cacao, pepper & oak, well balanced. Fine tight tannins that opened nicely after 45 minutes, lingering, complex ending with fruit, spice & mineral character.

1 person found it helpfulDec 6th, 2018A real teeth stainer, deep garnet red. Nice nose with lots of layers; earthy, dusty, hint of tomatoes, dark cocoa, dark cassis and dried dark cherries. Moderate tannins (7/10) and well integrated. Rounded and full bodied with black currants, spices herbs, strawberries and a hint of unsweetened cocoa. Very dry and long finish. Fine sediment in the glass and decanted for three hours. Drink till 2020.

Jan 17th, 2017A big, beautiful monster. Needs a full decant but as it relaxes it unfolds into a lush and powerful example of Tempranillo.
