Jean Foillard
Fleurie Gamay
This is good. I’ve had an unfortunate run with Beaujolais recently, four bottles in a row that were either muddled and overripe or overwhelmed with mouse. Needed to open this to remind myself.
Pink and purple flowers, black licorice, delicate pepper atop bright purple fruit. Very pure if a little ripe, the acid melds well into the spicy and subtly structured palate.

Quite mature and approachable now with forest floor, red raspberry and blackberry, leather and a hint of smoke. Elegant, medium acidity, very good with food

Aug 14th, 2017Nose is very “Foillard 15” which is muted and broad. Strawberry, cherry, raspberry and spice, elegant and mineral but a bit soupy. Some nice wet earth. Palate is rich and ripe and hot and messy and is kind of a problem. I think this will improve with air but not be great.

A beautiful wine with great finesse

1 person found it helpfulApr 10th, 2019More ‘15 than Foillard. Nose has load of crushed rock, intense hard-candy like grape cherry, and a high-toned, almost eucalyptus like note. Highly-extracted, and slightly bitter in the mouth. A scorched earth note too. Meh. At least I’m working through my ill-advised purchases of 15 Bojos.

This was a fully different bottle than the others (same vintage) enjoyed previously. Immense green vegetable/pepper notes for the first 24 hours, and then finally revealed some minor cherry traits. Not sure what was going on with this particular bottle, it was certainly off.
