Julien Sunier
Régnié Gamay

Lots of licorice and strawberry, dried raspberry, beautifully translucent like fresh fruit preserves. Is that a very understated hint of bubblegum? Delivers elegance on the palate with savory, saline minerals and an almost herbal finish.

Gotta agree with Adriana’s comments. This was a pretty impressive wine, and not just for Beauj. I missed the Sunier train until now but glad I am on board now.

Wonderfully fresh, vibrant offering from Sunier. Pretty fruit with just the right amount of carbonic grape-bubblegum aspect to complement the structure. Aroma is quite heady. Really juicy and delicious. Difficult to put the glass down, but not for lack of complexity.

Lovely beaujo! All cherries and violets with great acidity. Love this one from Sunier

Ruby/violet. Sour cherries, violet and rose petals and some smoky ness explodes out of the glass. The fruit is nicely balanced by medium acidity and refined tannins. Lovely Beaujolais!

Aug 8th, 2020Julien Sunier, first tasted his wines about 10 years ago. He is a biodynamic grower which is not the norm in Beaujolais. First tasted his wines about 10 years ago. He produces classic Cru Beaujolais. Lots of tart red fruit, dirt and earthiness.

The rich killed New York City, and climate change killed Beaujolais.

Just barely ripe and incredibly pure fruit: bramble berries, blueberries. Balanced and built for the long haul. Chewy tannins. I originally intended to wait a few years before opening this bottle (and doing a comparison with the Morgon and Fleurie) but my will power had other plans. Sunier is quickly becoming one of my go-to producers from this region for consistently well-made, natural wines (from Wild Soul to the crus)—and still a relative value 🤫

Notes on the nose of dark raspberry, grape candy, black cherry, a touch of spice and flowers. There’s also an earthy meatiness which starts off stronger, but then quiets down and melts into the background. On the palate blackberry compote with black licorice, singed blackberry bramble, and dark flowers, a smattering of red berries and few sprigs of herbs to the mix. The fruit had a nice balance being just at the midpoint of being tart and ripe.
Paired with focaccia and cheese plate.
