La Rioja Alta
Gran Reserva 904 Rioja Tempranillo Graciano
Vintage 2007 | Masterpiece. Mesmerizing smell, complex: a flower garden, scottish pipe tobacco, cinnamon, rinse applesyrup. Refinement and elegance. 😍

Oct 17th, 2023Pillars of 5 founding families erected a winery in 1890 producing wines of outstanding quality that continue to evolve. Bright Ruby, complex fruit aromas, spice and oak. 90% Tempranillo & 10% Graciano, 48 mos on American oak, not made every year! From Haro, Ripe Berry fruits, powerful yet elegant, with spice & smoky notes on full, very tight, tannins. Lingering finish, nice mouthfeel, ending with mineral earthy tones, a joy to Sip!! Tasting great, has much more aging potential. Great Value!

Mar 18th, 2019Dill, vanilla, cedar, cinnamon, licorice, leather, with some surprisingly vibrant fruit thrown in as well. Can age further but what’s the point?

Nov 3rd, 2018Quite youthful and shy, a little thin now and lacking a full finish. Tannins outweigh the fruit. I still love this house. My bad for opening this early. Source the ‘97 which is gorgeous and available at inviting prices. Hold for now.

May 31st, 2018I’ve loved this wine in other vintages, but this ‘07 is currently showing a bit more sweet oak than I’d like. It’s also not as long and complex as years past. Maybe just the vintage??

May 16th, 2018I recognize this is still a baby but I really thought I'd be more impressed. Obviously well made and great structure.

Mar 18th, 2018A great bottle for the price quality . Intense nose of red and blue fruits with a touch of vanilla some tea and earth with a touch of violets . A perfect time to drink since the tannins are well -resolved but should last for another 10 years . Tasted at Butter in New York City .

Aug 6th, 2017Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.
My contribution for the evening. I’m posting my previous review of this wine below as it’s been consistent the few times I’ve had it over the last 12-18 months. Love these wines!
Youthful. Icredibly perfumed with typical sweet dill and coconut American oak on the nose. Gosh, I could smell this stuff all day. Aside from needing time away, it needs roughly an hour of decanting to hit stride. Tobacco, cherry tart, and great herbal nuances on the finish.

Garnet red in color. Offering nose and palate of dark cherry, herbs, leather, cedar, tobacco, prune, fig, vanilla and dill. Structured and long. A very good effort and a favorable pvr.
