Not quite up to the last bottle I had of this but still very good. On the nose, lots of spicy dark berry fruit with a very slight raisined note and the barest pinch of VA. Fruity, fairly deep, soft and nicely balanced in the mouth. Tannins completely resolved. Drink up and enjoy this 100 yr vines beauty. (I love that it’s “only” 14.5% )

Jul 14th, 2026Damn this is great Zin. I believe the Maffei Vineyard is around 100 years old. The nose features the brightest, deepest, purest essence of Zin blackberry fruit. There’s also some toasty and gravelly scents. In the mouth it’s bright and intense. Zingy acids are sooooo welcome. Intensity with real balance. Wow.

This wine is drinkable, and not bad with grilled rib-eye. But this bottle is off a bit, so I’m not going to rate it.
