Winery located in Alba, the Piedmont region was founded by its namesake in 1881. Great Grandson, Pio Boffa, continues the tradition of innovative wine making. ‘12 was a difficult but PC did well. Aromas of fresh dark berry fruits & herb notes. Cherry, plum and minty flavors, some licorice and cacao, well balanced with young tannins. Complex lingering finish ending with nice earthy notes. Enjoyable now but needs more time.

Oct 15th, 2017Classic Barolo. Cinnamon, cardamom and anise on the nose. Tart cherry, rhubarb, and wild strawberry coat the palate. Smoke and red berries round out the finish. Nice change.

Jun 28th, 2017Lighter bodied than expected with dusty rose and forest floor on the nose. Good acidity and moderate tannins with dried cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. 2012 received 94 points from James Suckling, I believe. Excellent pairing with Toma restaurant rack of lamb in pomegranate glaze (Santa Barbara).
