Tenuta dell'Ornellaia
Le Volte Toscana Sangiovese Blend
The just-released 2013 vintage is 50% merlot, 30% sangiovese and 20% cabernet sauvignon. The color is medium deep purple and the nose is filed with forest floor aromas, tobacco and black cherry. It smells as though it has a higher proportion of sangiovese and the palate supports that impression with tight acidity to balance the silky tannins. Finely drawn flavors of plum and black cherry and a solid mineral core. I wish it were about longer on the finish. This is a technically correct wine, everything in its place but it is a little sedate for my taste

The wine is dark ruby-purple at core and pink-watery at rim; nose is surprisingly sweet floral possibly from nicely integrated new oak, black and red currants but not much more; on the palate it is youthful, tannic and robust, finish is long and the overall mouthfeel is elegant, refined on the one hand, and lacks a bit of bite, on the other hand. which makes it different from most of my Tuscan experiences. Will see how it evolves in the cellar!
Had with Schumann's piano concerto and British cheeses.

A bit rough around the edges but it has a definite ribbon of stinging fruity acidity. Very young. A bit tart. It's good. Not amazing.

Nov 18th, 2015With this wine the price-performance ratio is more than just 50/50. A great wine at a relatively low price. Take a sip, close your eyes and hear the bells of the cathedral in Florence. Whether with a hearty pasta or a nice piece of beef. This wine is fun.

Sep 26th, 2020My second time with Le Volte and it doesn’t disappoint! 2013 vintage is ready to be enjoyed with a lot of flavors of black berries on the verge of becoming jam, you can feel forest notes, earthy and farm hits, with mushroom, rubber and pepper added to it. If the classic Bordeaux bores you, this is a southern bright and explosive version of the traditional Bordeaux grapes

Mar 10th, 201830% Sangiovese 50% Merlo 20% Cabernet blend.
High acidity , average to long aftertaste. Cherry stone, so called hydrocyanic acid (acetone smell) . Enriched color due to the thick skin grapes from Bordeaux blend. Rubber tobacco ashberry mushrooms.
