The Calling Wines
Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
A blend of 78% Cab Sauv, 16% Malbec & 6% Petit Verdot. Deep Ruby with aromas of red/black fruits with sweet notes and some spice. On the palate plum and blackberry flavors, vanilla spice, cacao and black pepper. Fine grainy tannins, ok balance with acidity, medium finish ending with oak tones, a bit tight. Not sure how this will cellar, but drinkable now. Tasting Sample.

Jan 9th, 2020This is firmly in the good, not great category. Lots of red and blue fruits and a bit of vanilla and that part is pleasant enough...but it comes across a touch industrialized. Medium tannins. Decent acid. Their Dutton Chardonnay and Pinot are better values IMO.

Balanced tart fruit and crisp tannins.
A touch of persimmon / cardamom sophistication.
A bit subtle for a cab.
Just a touch sweet for me. Maybe a touch oaky… but that’s being pretty picky.

Mar 5th, 2020The Calling from Alexander Valley. Cherry pie bouquet. The initial thought on the palate is black cherry , maybe because it was described on the back of the bottle. Then blackberry comes to mind, and a sweet passion fruit hint on the back end. This is a perfect sweet to a dry wine. Then comes the chocolate and ripe fig. Now as this dissipates the Earthy ending, moderately dry finish takes over. And yes, the aroma of sweet pipe tobacco lingers in the nose from the aromas escaping the palate. This is a great wine. I highly recommend it. Cheers!

Apr 22nd, 2019Soft crushed berries in the nose. Lighter berries like gooseberry rather than raspberry or blueberry. Enveloping coffee or cocoa bean adds subtle dark tones. Soft medium finish.

Oct 20th, 2018Day 2 is very good. Not overly fruity like many Sonoma Cabs. Nice minerality to balance the black fruit.
