Villa Pozzi
Sicily Nero d'Avola
Deep dark black red color with promising earthy, spicy dried herb and black and red fruit aromas. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, easy and fresh with black cherry, black raspberry, and a bit of plum flavors and dusty tannins. Medium finish. Very good value at $10. Wonderful with Mushroom, Spinach and Blue Cheese Pizza!

Smooth medium body with balanced medium sweetness and acid that match the nose beautifully. Juicy at first, but then chalky tannins lay thickly on the tongue. They fold into a decently velvety finish, delivering more rich blackberry/black cherry vanilla. The expression of oak is admirably subtle and well married to the grape. Lighter and a bit brighter than something like a new world Malbec (i.e. It feels European), but delivers more thick fruity presence than most old world reds I've had. I sense serious potential here, but improvements in the structure of the tannins would be needed to get it to 9+ territory. The acid is perfect now: it would need more to age long enough to mellow the tannins out. As it is I might buy again for $13, but there are plenty more $10-$12 wines to explore, and a dish heavy enough to quell the sucking tannins would likely obliterate the delicate Chambord aromas that are this enjoyable wine's main strength.
