@Matt Duncan agreed with your assessment of Hirsch. I sort of compare their approach to those of Francois Bertheau in Chambolle-Musigny as I find them stylistically similar. @Stephen Pierron if you like Hirsch, you will also probably appreciate Littorai who purchased fruit from David Hirsch for years.
Loving the commentary @Jay Kline and @Matt Duncan ! Looks like I will need to find their Block 8 PN, if it still offered or available in a wine store near me. I know Hirsch recently released a "Maritime" PN, but sold out in a matter of hours during the allocation offering - surprising the high demand! It was nice to finally enjoy a PN from California that was truly expressive of the terroir, Burgundian in style, and not overoaked or with a high alcohol content. I will check out Littorai and I believe I've seen a store near me carry their Chardonnay. Greatly appreciate your assessment of their wines and the recommendations! Cheers 🍷
I think you’ll have a hard time finding the Block 8 at a store. The mailing list is a better bet for that wine. Littorai, Failla, and Lioco make interesting expressions of the Hirsch vineyard. Williams Selyem used to make a richer wine with Hirsch grapes. It’s really interesting to try all of them to see how various winemakers interpret the same site.
@Ron R They were truly phenomenal. Pomerol, Pauillac, St. Julien, and Margaux showed exceptionally well. Top wines were Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Château Pichon Baron, Château Beychevelle, Château Clinet, Château Cantenac Brown, and Château Gazin. We were at the UGCB event in NYC.
