This wine pours a blackish purple. It has intriguing aromas of earth, cut grass and dried fruit. The flavors are amazing— red berries and maybe dates. It has balanced tannins and a moderate finish. Many thanks to good friend Agnes for this gift which she got from Grocery Outlet of all places! This is a truly outstanding wine from an excellent vineyard. Nice nose with some alcohol. Delicious flavors of cherry jam and nice tannins. I love ripasso-style wines and this was a good one. Un bellissimo colore intenso rubino porpora vivace.  Al naso esce subito l’intensità e le spezie finissime di immensa e inesorabile eleganza un ventaglio aromatico complesso in cui il frutto non è mai coperto dalla spezia ed è in un equilibrio maniacale.  identificare tutti i descrittori è impresa dura talmente è elevata la complessità. Al naso si percepisce anche una scia sapida minerale iodato. Il bouquet si apre rapidamente e si distende adagiandosi su un fondale marino. Radici e balsamico, avvolgente. In bocca un esplosione, un tannino bello, potente, che sa dove andare. La pianta sta esprimendo tutta se stessa che più non può! L’immensa avvolgenza e morbidezza è all’improvviso interrotta nel finale ammandorlato, che crea un nuovo livello di suggestione e riprepara l’anima ad inoltrarsi sempre di più dentro se stessa. Cola, china, liquirizia. Un l’attacco leggermente pungente al palato, sulla punta della lingua una leggera morbidezza che si dipana avvolgendo tutta la bocca con il suo tannino. Ed eccoci di nuovo ancora al finale, che questa volta prende un tratto agrumato quasi di twist di scorza d’arancia e poi di un nuovo l’ammandorlato che ci invita inesorabilmente alla riscoperta di noi stessi, con un nuovo sorso. FUNGHI. resine o corteccia leggera.  c’è una nota dolce forse una Spezia tipo cannella. il gusto è pieno di corpo. Tratti che ricordano la Croatina del campo del Monte. un pre finale velocissimo leggermente abboccato e poi amaro subito dopo.  L’alcol veicola profumi sensazioni e corpo. È perfettamente integrato nonostante i 15°. Una bella scorrevolezza. La parte migliore è certamente il bouquet olfattivo.  — 5 years ago

This is the standard Côte Rôtie from Agnes Levet that’s a blend of different parcels. However, the philosophy and approach remain the same as “La Chavaroche” and “Les Journaries”. In the past, this bottling was known as “Améthyste” and only recently became more widely available in the US. “Widely” is a relative word, lol.

Opened about an hour prior to service. The 2021 pours a deep garnet/purple with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with a gorgeous bouquet all of the different varieties and colors of brambles your heart could possibly desire along with all of the seeds and stems, freshly cracked black pepper, dried herbs, some of the animale, purple flowers some hints of old wood and yes, perhaps a kiss of brettanomyces. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is forever long, drying and loaded with even more black pepper. This is giving me total 2014 vibes and if you liked that vintage in the Northern Rhône (as I did), you’re gonna absolutely love this. Drink now through 2036. — 2 years ago
