Riserva Gattinara Nebbiolo 2018

Strawberries, rose petals, Thai tea, dried orange peel, nutmeg, and earth. Lovely finish. With the price of Barolo and Barbaresco going through the roof, this is a great alternative getting plenty close for half the price.

Previously tried 2017 but forgot to write my tasting notes down.

Vino Gattinara Nebbiolo 1964

Sour cherry, red currant, and raspberry, a touch of funk in the background. Such a clean, clear, and bright wine - I hope I am this beautiful at this age. — 9 years ago

Travaglini

Gattinara Nebbiolo 1973

A relatively affordable, great bottle of 1973. I thought it would never happen. (And it's Travaglini when I'm a Nervi/Antoniolo supporter...) Smoky, fruity and balanced. The wine gods are good. — 9 years ago

It seems I should lay down mine for a few years, eh?

Probably. I find recent vintages a bit oaky, so age should help. But I wonder if they make the same wine they did in 1973.

Strong tannins and well structured. Pair with charred red meat and sunchokes - worked quite nicely. — 9 years ago
