Fraicheur tranchante. — a month ago
What a pleasant surprise, for a 19 year old Sonoma Merlot to have anything left to offer. Thanks to careful cellaring done by my brother David Nelson, this bottle still had some dark fruit and woody notes, along with a nice acid structure. I don't drink much wine of this age, but this was a pleasant quaff with a slow cooked beef roast. — 8 years ago

The jail bird?On the nose; yellow lilies, lemon custard, lime, green apple, pineapple, sea spray, cream soda, touch of ginger ale, bread, yeast, brioche, soft minerals, cream & jasmine.
On the palate; green apple, pineapple, lemon custard, lime, cream soda, ginger ale, gritty volcanic minerals that really penetrate the palate, sea shells, cream, bruised golden apples, brioche, yeast, yellow lilies, jasmine, beautiful acidity and a long, rich, well polished finish.

This is the “Arch” cuvée. And it’s quite a cuvée! Gorgeous nose. Deep, ripe, pure, spiced cherry. Also a subtle gravelly mineral note. In the mouth, it’s deeply flavored but has less fruit than the nose suggests and instead features quite a mineral streak. Very nice acidity propels it along and there a line of taut, fine-grained tannin. I think this is on the young side and will benefit from 2-4 more years. — 20 days ago
