Alder Springs Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020

Lots of forest floor and earth compared to most P&H. Complimented by black cherry and stewed strawberry on the palate and medium bodied. 13.5% ABV. — 6 months ago

Perli Vineyard Syrah 2018

Assume that’s the vineyard in the inked drawing on the label. Fancy stuff at $48 per bottle…
Lovely deep red to purple color. Smells like musk, woods, campfire on your clothes. Maybe a cranberry or elderberry tone under it all. Interesting smell to it for sure. Flavors are also interesting. Old time tonics and herbal extractions. More elderberry stuff. Absinthe. Or is that Jegermister? The fruit is there too, but it’s under the savory and strange stuff. This is a wine to age. But it’s good now too if you are into the strange and earthy side of Syrah. A true terroir driven drinking experience. I can see the coast valleys of Mendo in the flavors.

The Federalist Mendocino Zinfandel

Lovely and deep. Has a fairly rich and mellow taste which is very pleasant compared to the light and uninspiring nose. The finish is slightly deep but has zing to it. I am a bourbon drinker and have 40+ bottles in my collection and can say that I completely forgot this was finished in bourbon barrels. I guess if you're thinking bourbon while you're drinking, you get a sense of it in the exhale at the end of the finish, but that's about it. But there must be some influence in keeping the taste a bit rich. Whatever the bourbon is doing, I like it. — 5 years ago

Mendocino County Pinot Noir 2017

A long time Turkey day favorite, that seemed to lose status as a Thankgiving staple has returned with triumph to our table. Velvet and rich, dark garnet. Flavors of blackberries and lingonberry. Loved the sturdy burst of flavor in my mouth. — 7 years ago

Isabel's Cuvée Gibson Ranch Grenache Rosé 2022

2022. Weather was really encouraging rosé on the patio, so we were happy to oblige! Loads of chunky sediment that was easily kept in the bottle (kind of). Delicious pink grapefruit, strawberry, watermelon. Mouthwatering acidity, but balanced with the fruit. — 3 years ago

Anthill Farms

Comptche Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Reopening week continues. One of my favorite CA PN cuvées, threading the needle beautifully between my savory wagyu, and my wife’s herbal Gonestraw chicken. Super young and the lush fruit needs time to subside into the other spice & brush components of the wine. Delicious nevertheless. — 6 years ago

Edmeades

Mendocino County Zinfandel 2022

Clear, medium ruby in color; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced intensity primary and secondary aromas of blackberries, strawberries, and tabacco; on the palate, it's dry with low acidity, medium tannins, high alcohol, medium body, and pronounced primary and secondary flavors of blueberries, blackberry jam, and crushed gravel with a medium finish. This wine is simple but balanced and intense. Overall, I rate this wine as good. — 8 months ago

Las Jaras Wines

Old Vines Sweet Berry Wine Carignan

Says sweet but it’s surprisingly well balanced. Dry, with a hint of tannin, it’s light/medium bodied with a VERY floral nose, with hints of pine sap and raspberry enfolding deep. The palate is long, with ripe and tart red fruits up front, a prominent acidity, and a dry finish, with long lingering notes that are slight vegetal, with hints of black tea ending in a gentle minerality. Much better than I had expected! — 4 years ago

Indica Mendocino County Carignan Rosé 2017

Color is almost like grapefruit. Nose of ripe pineapple, tart cherry, mineral, flowering note like light honey, and tinkling carbonate. Taste is clean and follows the nose, with refreshing grapefruit zest, long subtle acidity, some tart cherry, and honey. Aftertaste is medium, with grapefruit and naval green range finish, very clean and savory. — 7 years ago
